The Queen of cookery Delia Smith is due to collect her CBE from Buckingham Palace.

Smith, 68, is one of Britain's best-loved TV cooks and has been hailed for teaching the nation kitchen basics.

Her easy-to-follow recipes earned her the nickname "Saint Delia" and her career so far has spanned more 40 than years.

Her books - including Delia Smith's Complete Cookery Course and How to Cheat at Cooking - have sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.

Smith, who is also joint majority shareholder of Norwich City Football Club, was born in Woking in Surrey and grew up in Bexleyheath in Kent.

She will be given her award by the Prince of Wales.

Fashion designer Jeff Banks will receive a CBE for services to the fashion industry and to charity.

Banks, who used to present The Clothes Show, started out in 1964 by setting up a boutique called Clobber.

The 66-year-old, originally from Ebbw Vale in south Wales, has designed corporate clothing for scores of companies including Barclays Bank and Butlins and once revamped the Brownies' uniform.

Others receiving awards include Olympic gold medallist rowers Andrew Triggs Hodge and Thomas James who get their MBEs, as does Middlesbrough Football Club in the Community project chairman George Cooke.
