If I recall, you have a fairly large dish already for this sat (Andrews 2.4)

I would just make sure the skew and alignment is spot on; it's a weak satellite here and is the H polar.

A few of things I have found here with CM 2.4īs

Check the 2 parts have been bolted together correctly - Its amazing the amount I have been to where they are poorly put together.

Also pull on the 3 lnb support arms one at a time to check if the lnb is being illuminated by the whole dish. Again by "slightly bending" the arms in or out the signal can be improved slightly and this just may be enough.

On older dishes they seem to open out over time - try knocking a wedge between the dish and the support mount at the bottom of the dish. This forces the bottom up and in slightly - again this may be just enough.

    Just another quick note.
Whoever imported the CM dishes to this Island obviously didnīt bother with the matched feedhorns as I have worked on about 15 over here and seen only one fitted.

Anyway the point is that the only other LNB we have found to work successfully is the Large ALPS 0.6 Quad - even though its 0.6 they work well on the low frequencies we want far 2D. Light grey in colour with a silver manufacturers sticker. Anything else that has been tried does not work very well.

sorry I didn't see your post... too busy trying to do the same job when you posted I think...

It's difficult to predict for anywhere... just going off the fact that your latitude is much closer - similar to the south coast of the UK where reports say a smaller dish can be used ....and your longitude may give further benefit (or not)... but as everyone knows.. these signals are far outside the footprint maps so we are relying on the fact that 7w is a big coverage area which is also more difficult to contain compared to a very focused beam.

A guess would be for Showtime's main H (sport) tp... a decent 1.2 from Kiev... and 100% setting up with a sensitive stb/ lnb/ cable etc... and a low interference area .... a decent 1.8 etc... for decent rain fade ...

but the best advice is to try to get as local information as possible.

You might do it to a degree if you have a rural location with little local interference (neighbours, power lines, telephone lines/poles, radioactive sheep) and it's set up 100% etc.. Whether you would get it consistently I think probably not..... (but would hope you do it).

A 2.4m can get showtime's h (sport) tp in N Stoke but it has to be installed 100% and local interference can become a problem, not just the stuff that the cable can pick up but how a dish that size can amplify anything nearby into the feed horn along with the feint signals barely getting through from the weak h's.

A decent 1.8m might give you a chance, but if you are thinking of buying one of the cheap and flimsy 1.8m dishes from maplin forget it - you need to be looking at several hundred pounds of well engineered dish (With no guarantee it is big enough!)

Where are you going to buy it? The latest owner is ASC Signals. The main hardware remains the same.

Andrews/ Channel Master are ASC Signal now and the 1.8s & 2.4s use the same model numbers/ design.. 183s & 243s with tx & tx/rx KU & C band feed options .... and the same crude AZ/EL mounts..

    see _http://www.ascsignal.com/html/vsat_pdfs.html

If you get a used one, try to make sure it was previously installed 100% and follow all the installation docs 100%. If a face/ join seem was installed badly there is no telling if that material could keep a distortion or would spring back 100%, especially if it was exposed to very hot weather while bolted twisted -over tightened for a prolonged period and it's not easy or cheap to test a dish of that size. Their quoted tolerance is .025" (0.63mm) max on the seem and above that won't do (better as near to zero as you can) and the face should not be stressed at any point in installation or over tightened or tightened out of order.

If it's used commercially for VSAT etc.. the size would be spec'd at over kill to ensure continuity but on 7w weak Hs in mid UK, everything needs to be 100%. The pole has to be to spec or higher and perfectly vertical and have a level/ square cut top- even if you are not motorising it... if it's out you don't know where you are when you come to really fine adjust the AZ/EL .. add that to the really crude galvo dipped az/el (fine?) adjusters and it can be frustrating ...hmmm. (It's a good idea to grease those- not on a locking surface- use washing up liquid on those). If I got the opportunity/ time I would replace the AZ/EL adjusters for far better engineered equivalents...
If you want to try LNBf's on it, the focal length of the feed horn throws it forward 5-10mm so it needs a long neck LNBf like the Edison (or a bit of a mod) to get the best out of LNBfs ....
