Hi - Can anyone recommed a dish/lnb freesat receiver setup for DIY installation. My local satellite installer has quoted £169 for a working system. Can I save much by buying the individual components and fitting it myself?
Thanks,
Sid

You can get a Dish/LNB pack for around £20 from Fleabay etc. (same as " Sky" Dish etc.)
Receivers start at around £50 for a Standard Definition Box or a little over the ton for HD. Argos, John Lewis etc.
Box suppliers generally offer Installation at around £80.
So if you add that lot up, your quote is reasonable - but of course you can save by DiY.
Really it depends what receiver you got for that quote, whether it was expensive or not.
If you didn't want to record you could get a Humax Foxsat for about £110 I think, or a Foxsat HDR (recorder twin tuner) for about £260, plus the dish as mentioned by Tivu.
generic SD FTA receivers can be purhased very cheaply, less than £50.
Technisat have also brought out a Freesat HD box that can record (single tuner), can't remember the price of those, one of the site sponsors will have them.
Whatever receiver he is supplying I can't see how it can be expensive.
The guy will turn up at your home at a time of your choice with all of the equipment required. He'll install the dish and receiver, will mount it and align it properly, swap out the LNB if faulty, run the cable to your television point and probably connect and tune in the receiver.
He'll then guarantee it and the installation for a year and come and pick it up if it goes wrong, coming back with a repaired or replacement receiver.
Sounds like good value to me.
Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.
Sid
