Pre-formed cables tend to be of poor quality with a very flimsy centre core. In this case, it isn't just the exposed length of core that matters, but also the diameter, which may be inadequate.
There is also a greater risk of displacing the core when attaching the cable to a socket (such that it misses the female receptacle and gets trapped), or even of breaking it.
