    Angle Indicating Scales

    I have found that the angle indicating scales on some H to H Sat Motors are not accurate.This has led to wasted time in setting up a dish and i enquire whether forum members have experienced the same.

    Although there will be a slight inaccuracy of the angle markings; haven't encountered any problems with motors I've used.

    Inclinometer = problem solved.

    My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.
    They are a bit crude, but not really a significant problem.

    I've known one or two people fail to properly identify the correct datum and it is also mighty difficult to get within half a degree when tightening up.

    The former just requires care and the latter is largely irrelevant as such a small error can be balanced during the final alignment of dish elevation.

    The seam that joins the two halves of the shell of the motor is at 90% to the motor shaft so I just offer my digital level up to that seam. It's more than 6" long and there are no curves to worry about so this is pretty accurate. I've never used the scale on a bracket. They're terrible things, especially the ones with the pointer built in to the washers. In the case with the photo it's about a degree out. Levelling a 1224 is a lot easier though because you can just plonk the level straight on the top plate.

    I've got one of them too but I find it loses zero when it is stored in the toolbox and I need a reference zero to reset it. Seems to loses zero within a couple of hours. By loses I mean it is several degrees off. Is yours the same or do I just have a dodgy example?
