    Bolt size

Hi lads, quick question for you.

I've just upgraded to a 1m Gibertini dish.
As I'm using the existing T&K brackets from my old dish, I'm just wondering if the existing rawl bolts are sufficient for the new load.

I'm currently using M6 which by my measurements are 2 inches in length and 5mm in diameter.

    Is this sufficient?

    12mm mate

It seems secure enough to be honest. The brackets are about 2 feet apart and the dish is between them.

    cheers

I just purchased a 1.1m Triax Dish and Motor, they were mounted on a Heavy duty (2") 90deg long stand off (43cm) angle bracket.

It was fixed at the original owners with Rawlbolts without any problems.

I am fixing to a Brick Built house.

What size rawl bolts should I use?

Bricks may become softer due to aging. When I have to mount a bigger (larger than 60cm) dish to such walls, I prefer for making holes thru the whole wall, and adding support metal plate on back.

P.S. I personally have seen a situation, when wind broke off heads of M8 bolts, and took 150cm dish away.

    To H*ll with the expence!

Read with horror reports of bolts shearing and dishes blowing off walls!

Instead of the angle bracked, I purchased TK Brackets.

Can anyone tell me what the maximum size of rawl bolt fits the holes on
a Standard TK Bracket. The max Diameter appears to be 10-12mm?

How does that compare to M8, M10 etc?
    Might be obvious but...
    are M10 rawlbolt a 10mm diameter thread?

    It's 16mm Mr Crossbones.

I used some last week, similar to the ones Mr satelliteman has in his picture (except I have 10mm)

    I just Thought...

After giving the new TK Brackets a good coat of hamerite.

The stand off from wall to centre of support pole is 24cm.
    Adequate for 1.1m Triax dish?

Does you wall face exactly south?

Even if it does, it is going to be a bit tight, you should just get up to 45 degrees either way

Thanks Robbo, the wall is within a couple of degrees of due south.

Would I need to go further than 45 E/W?

It depends if you have line of site for that low an elevation. Never been past 45 degrees myself, so I don't know if its worth going that little bit extra.

If you have line of sight at such a low Elevation, there's a few good music channels on 53e which would be a good catch.
