    My System: sky plus box

    7025 help please

    hi

i would like some help if you dont mind. i would like to buy a 7025 but its abit expensive at the mioment as im a complete neewbie to these boxes. the reason i want this box is it has the twin turner so i can record 1 channel and watch another well thats the main reason anyway.

problem is this box is abit to much money as i concerned when i try to flash it and that i may kill the box. so my question is.... i have been told that there is a clone/cheap alternative to the 7025. would someone be able to tell me what these boxes are as i can then test my ability on cheap products then buy the better 7025 or 800 if i can strech my budget that far.

If you are a complete newbie you would be better off considering a none linux box to begin with.

To get the best out of a dreambox you need to invest hundreds of hours of your free time before the box will do what you want it to do.

What channels are you wanting to record??

I wouldn't worry too much about the learning curve.
If you have decided that this is the receiver that you would like to have, then buying another cheap receiver in order to learn is a total waste of money.
This is what I would recommend:
Buy the 7025S and use it with the original image for few weeks. Get to know it better as any ordinary receiver.
If you have a subscription package (adult, etc), you can use the CI slot with a PCMCIA module for the same encryption and it should open the channels in that package (but NOT Sky or any other NDS packages at this stage).

In the meantime, read as much as you can in the Dreambox section, go over the Idiot Guide and once you feel confident that you can start playing with it, then ask us the questions and we will try to help you.
Another possibility is buying two 7020S, for better flexibility, if you can get them both for the same price as the 7025S.
    Beware of clones.
    Enjoy the box/es

i am going to use the box for cardsxxxing as im sure you all know anyway the resaon i would liek to start ona cheap box/clone is that when i have learned how to do it and am confident the cheaper box will go upstairs anyway and the real 7025 will be used as the main box downstairs.

hope i havent cheated any of ur rules with this post if i have sorry.

why buy two 7020 boxes ?

sorry as said im a newbie and learning as i go the extent of my know how is i managed to flash my eagle box so i can get the Sky channels via cardsxxxing.

    thx for any help

If you expect to take any dreambox out of the box and set it up for cardsharing the same day you are going to be sorely disappointed and very frustrated.

Dreamboxes can be complete sods to get your head around. However as you seem to have your heart set on one then HB13 was saying take it out of the box, then just use its basic setup for a few weeks until you are more familiar with how they run under the bonnet

7025's are very expensive, (no clones available) and you can get 2 7020's for the same money.

Ok a few things to bare in mind here.

    1. You won't f*** it up ! Everything you'll be doing will be software based( Apart from installing HDD) and is all undo-able or redo-able ! ( Are they even words ?)

    2. The 600 and 7020 are very much inferior boxes to the 7025 and it would be a waiste of money. DM7020 is now discontinued so only clone available.

    3. We will help you get the box going as long as you understand a few basics like, FTP, Telnet, Ethernet , Router control & DHCP and so on. If you don't understand any of these then you are not ready for a dreambox.

Don't be scared by it. When you've spent 3 months playing with it you'll look back and think 'Why did I think this was so hard'. Invest the time and you will reap the benefits, but as mentioned , you won't get anywhere near its full potential out of the box.

If you order a box I'd always recommend a higher end box, DM7025, 800 , 8000. Have your home network ready to receive the box when it comes. Thats the first thing to do, get it connected to the router, its very helpful and will safe a lot of time.
