    DivX

this is an old topic i know...

but is there now a better alternative to streaming from the PC??
is there a plugin now that anyone knows about?

surely there most be a Linux codec that will work.

at the moment i am transfering Divx files to my Xbox, but i wish i could use the Dreambox and didnt have to keep pulling everything out from under the TV, to swap the Network cable over.

its not possible, its a hardware limitation, the CPU in the DB is not strong enough to play divX,youre xbox CPU has much more number crunching power, hence it can do it ...

go for it mate ... if you can convince them to put a better CPU in a future model then a lot of people will be happy

rumours are the DM8000 will have such a CPU ... if it ever arrives at all

Clearly the answer to your question is either:

    (a) Have Dream re-design the dreambox with a 1Ghz CPu or hardware MPEG2 decoder like the via mini-itx boards...

    (b) Buy a small 5 port switch for under the TV thus resolving the cable swapping issue.

Personally I would go option (b) unless you like a challenge...

Just have a look at Playing DivX and other formats on the Dreambox on http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/Dig...ltplayback.htm

I tried it, and it works.

    Have fun,
