My System: Silvercrest SL65/12 Camping (Comag)

    Lidl camping system, What next?

Bought the LIDL Silvercrest SL65/12 System (The one in the grey carry case, COMAG).

When i got home i had to have a play, Did not take long to find some channels. Some channels wont display or show weak signal.

This i presumed was due to the small dish size but after finding this site it seems i struck lucky and there are so many other variables to consider.

I found this list of channels...
    http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/United-Kingdom.html

Which satellite am i actually aiming at? The signal bars show approx 70% and i can get some of the channels on both the Eurobird1 and Atra 2D. Does this mean my dish is not correctly aligned or maybe a bit small?

I would like to receive both signals what do i need to do?

    Bows to your superior knowledge

    Thank You.

Can you please post some information regarding the channels you're receiving, including frequency details, and names, check the channel onscreen logo to make sure the two match up.

Subject to the Channel names you've been asked to provide a sample of, assuming they actually are Channels from Eurobird/Astra, then to all intents and purposes you can consider the group of Satellites comprising Astra 2A,B,C,D and Eurobird 1 to be co-located (ie One and the same).

All you need to do is to make very small adjustments indeed (both in direction and elevation) to peak the received strength and (more importantly) quality.

Also, the LNB must be turned slightly clockwise (when looking from the LNB towards the Dish) to somewhere between the one o'clock and two o'clock position: That is called Skew and helps you receive both Horizontally and Vertically polarised Channels.

Is that the info you require??

CH5 is on number 3 slot but it was called something else. The other channels i tried seem to work OK. BBC & ITV & zone channels & men & motors are all labelled correctly.

I know its not the best dish to use but only wanted it for camping, I might get a better dish to use for home. But if i can find channels with the dish supplied it cannot be as bad as people make out.

Need your help before i do anything though. All this has stumped me totally.

    Thanks Again

PS.. is that enough info or are there any particular channels i should look for?

    Ok.

    Right Satellite!

Follow earlier advice re. fine alignment and LNB Skew - BUT, it may well be that you haven't got all the Transponders stored.

There are two ways to resolve this

    1. Manually add all the missing Transponders by reference to the link you've already found. It's often the case that pre-stored lists are out of date.

    or (much easier)

    2. Simply carry out an Auto Scan (Take care to select FTA only, or you'll have a lot of deleting to do!).

    Edit: Menu>Installation>Auto Scan>Scan Mode (Free)>Search

As far as Channel numbers/names etc are concerned, you can sort that later (literally).

There are facilities for renaming/deleting/grouping and you can sort by name if you like. Just a matter of getting to grips with all the menus!

I might get a better/ bigger dish for home use. I did not buy it with the intention of using it at home but after seeing what some channels show i think it might be worth it, the camping system only cost £30.

They had some bigger round dishes on sale quite cheap.

I did a channel scan whilst messing and it found loads of pay & encrypted channels. Did not see an option to only scan FTA.

So which sat am i looking at? why does that site say the channels are on 2 different satellites but i can get both?

    1. With the cursor on "Scan Mode", just scroll left/right to highlight "Free"

    2. See my earlier Post #3: There are 5 Satellites at the nominal 28E position, but you effectively see them as just one. The only potential problem comes when you use Dishes well over 1m as they can have trouble seeing Eurobird as well as all the Astra Satellites. Fret not.

You seem to be getting there

So bigger is not always better, I think the dishes are 60 or 80cm.

I presume anything bigger than the dish i have will give better results.
After reading some comments on the camping system i will have to disagree with them, It seems to work OK for me.

And i dont understand most of the stuff you lot talk about

    Thanks.

Will let you know how i get on with a bigger dish.

A Sky zone 1 minidish is all that is usually needed for 28E and will work OK 99.9% ( I guess) of the time. Sometimes people use slightly larger, say a zone 2 to give extra rain fade margin.

An 80cm dish, certainly is unnecessary for 28E. But really, whatever you can get cheapest. LOL
