This must be the most northwestern reception of 93.5E C-Band and even full. My congrats paul682

By the way have you checked the hardcore position 88E ? As of my conscience nobody in Europe has received this before. Had heard something about 3m minimum in Israel but no further details.

You never know. May i remind also about 22W West Africa Beam (Ku) that is been received partly in Greece ? Footprints sometimes are not representative.

That's interesting ... during digital times it's not so easy to receive "out of footprint signals" so congratulations

Old times came to my mind... In Eastern Finland and in analogue times (1996-1997) we received some signals from "Insat 2C 93.5'E widebeam" and Asiasat 100.5'E (CCTV, Panda Shopping Network), but not anymore possible to try because we had to move 2.4m dish to another place (angle for example 100.5'E was just around 0.5 degrees over horizon, impossible to try if not near large lake or sea, and even then ground noise was disturbing much) ... Today of course 100.5 is out of scope because signal is now digital and low threshold tuning is not really practical. If someone interested, you can see some old screenshots from this page (noisy ghost picture about man speaking is from 100.5E CCTV4):

Impressive screenshots you've got there. Thanks a lot. But how did you get 103E in Finland ? Dishpointer shows -0.4° elevation. Was it because of atmosphere refraction or because of its 3° inclination ? If latter I always thought inclination affects just the elevation and not the azimuth since the "8" is a standing and not a lying one. Am i wrong ?

    old times ..... back again

    hi
    yesterday
i was there for try to get something from 93,5

i was there all the morning nothing
no signal on all the c band

    the best time

    i see

it's in the sunshine hours between 19:00 and 21:00
there is the better propagation from that position
    and remember the FADING effects

one minute you receive all with a good margin
and after a few seconds ..... no signal
    the same fading effect
i see on MEASAT 91,5 EAST

seems to be the old TV - DX in I BAND channel A

    the same conditions

    old times back again!!!!!!!!

Well, I can not be sure, maybe it was both(?) .. it was good reception site, clear view to horizon from 180m high hill... Maybe satellite was also moving some periods between 102-104 east (so maybe not "really" 103'E). I could get signal only when I moved dish east from Asiasat2 and then "up" (north) with inclined orbit tracking motor. Strange is that it was quite strong. Asiasat2 was a "ghost" with voice but that "most eastern Ghorizont for me" came with colour... timeshifted version of RTR (compared to other russian positions)

One possible reason could be that there was a second Ghorizont there.. I tried to check it from Nasa's TLE-files and Satcodx/Lyngsat and those show that there was not any others near 101-103 east but who knows really sure how Russian's were moving those sallites

I see. 103E/3925R today could be worth to give it a try but there must be quite a few people with large dishes and absolutely open horizon to the East.

    HY MY FRIEND

    DEEP BLUE Sky!!!!!

YOU MEAN ATMOSFERIC REFRACTION FOR FINNSAT

BUT I HAVE THE same situation at me

    with INSAT 4 B 93,5 EAST

    IN FACT:

i receive this sat only during sunshine hours

    ( 19.00 / 21.00 )

and was occasionally only for a few moments

i try other times with clean sunny evening

for example yesterday ................but no way

    no signal!!!!!

    if was a direct reception

    the signal was even available

but when the signal arrive to the dish by a reflection

there is a condition to receive it!!!!!

    i wanna know

which meteo conditions permit the atmosferic refraction?????

i remember that the two times that i can receive

    93,5 east

was a cloudy umid evening with black black clouds

    over the east horizon!!!!!

you mean that the static electricity that comes from the clouds!!!!

    permit the reception??????

why in a clean sunny evening

i try , and i dont receive nothing?????

    the atmosferic refraction

is possible also in the " sunrise hours " ????????

i read also a WIKIPEDIA article

    about the atmosferic refraction!!!!!

but was a little bit poor about the details !!

    thanks for your attention

    and thanks again

    if u wanna help
    me

    ciao from ITALY

    Hello Paul,

Yes you're right, atmospheric refraction it's called. 93.5E is more than you could expect to get. _http://www.satellite-calculations.com/Satellite/antennageometric.xls shows that the data is rather critical for 93.5E when you enter your location in decimal mode and this sat position. So which weather is ideal ? Good question. On the one hand low humidity, darkness and cold temperatures (atmosphere and ground) lower the signal power loss on the very long way through the atmosphere but this is one factor, the other is which weather lets the signal travel longer because of its maximum refraction ? I'm afraid, I'm no physicist but i believe this would be a nice question for university students to calculate it and write a program.

Sorry my friend, I wish i could help you.
Greetings from cool and rainy Stoccarda.

The last noble sat warrior to fly the olden flag of Analogue
I rather suspect atmospheric refraction conditions would be rare and one of those things to look out for and enjoy when it happens.

I guess it would be difficult to predict anyway as there will be other factors involved. High humidity in the air will lead to increased signal absorbtion, as would any heavy rainstorms
    Analoguesat's message to the world
    Analogue forever!

Looks like it was Tropospheric Superrefraction or Ducting/Trapping in the SHF band as shown in _http://www.users.bigpond.com/vk2krr/DUCTING.htm. I wonder how big fluctuations can be and if there can be given a probability for occuring or not like in _http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo_eur.html

Oh i wasn't aware that the K2 Beam has been activated. What i meant was C-Band. The K1 Beam looks too far away.

I wonder this DX Bozoth which dish size he is using. Hungary is an excellent place for DXing, not too east to lose 58W but enough to have access to asian satellites and not too far south or north to lose all the other stuff. Because of its plains even terrestrial DX is a pleasure. By the way, have you seen the roof of member skystar here: _http://forum.dxtv.de/wbb/thread.php?threadid=5348 ? He also wanted to set up a 4m dish.
