My System: Two dishes 80cm and multi satellite dish.

    EXPRESS 40 EAST (mpeg 4)

    Hi,

Has anybody experience of picking up the MPEG4 russian channels at 40 degrees east. Are they available in the UK? with a small dish under 1m? And which receiver can pick them up? Are they FTA MPEG 4?

    Any help appreciated.

You need a receiver which has mpeg4 for high definition TV, and at the moment they are still FTA.
As for dish size you MIGHT need a slightly larger dish than 80cm, may be when you get these channels you will let us know.

    Express AM1-40 east

Moved the dish to 40 degrees east.Uzbekistan TV comes in with 50% signal quality. However nothing else from the satellite.Tried with Pace DS810 to pick up MPEG 4 signals but nothing.Anybody else tried successfully with these transponders and MPEG 4 receiver?

Has anyone had any success with picking up these Russian channels on 40 east.

Was thinking of getting a new (MPEG4) receiver for these channels but won't bother if no good.

The reverse transponder works out.The data seems to be there but nothing on the Vertical transponder. However cannot find definite details of transponder for tuning.

The data on Horizontal looks strong as uzbekistan TV.

Not sure whether the problem is all vertical transponders or the fact that Hellas Sat very close by with similiar frequencies.Maybe I need a very big dish?

None whatsoever Rob, I can easily get TV Uzbekistan 85% quality 55% strength All Hurrya the same , Space TV A2 drops to 18% 55%
but 10981V 44951 5/6 I have not a trace of, not even a sniff which leads me to think that the 'European' beam is not all that 'European' or details are not up to date on Lyngsat.

I did however by accident go past 42deg and picked up all the encrypted Discovery HD channels on 45deg East booming in on 99% 65% on 11591V 30000 7/8

    Information-Update

    10980 V

This is the information from FLY_SAT.com and tele-satellite.com says something competely different for the Russian Channels.

The signal on these channels is plenty strong enough, the reason why nobody can receive them is because of the high symbol rate in use, 44950. My Humax HDCI2000 for instance has a symbol rate range of 2000-45000 in normal DVB-S MPEG2 mode, but only 10000-30000 in DVB-S2 MPEG4 mode, thats why they can't be received.

Thanks for that ChannelHopper just what we needed to know.

Now if that's right does anyone know of a receiver that will pick these channels up, may be an answer from the other Channel Hopper.

Just imagine having TWO Channel Hopper's on the forum.

    An Answer-Great!

Thanks so much for explaining it.

It also explains why I cannot get the STS channel from 53 degrees east on my Humax 5300 anymore.

Can anybody tell me what is the max symbol rate on MPEG 4 on Pace DS810?

Not trying to be a smart arse but I can get the higher symbol rate of 44950 on the STS (CTC) channels on 53 east are you sure that you can't change yours.

Just wish I could get them on 40 east.

This question cropped up before. The professional Scopus IRD 2900 is still the only DVB-S2 receiver capable of handling SRs up to 45,000.

It's possible that your Humax isn't capable of handing high SRs. A number of DVB-S receivers can't work with SRs > 40,000 e.g Echostars AD3600/7000

Why are you scanning a DVB-S transponder with DVB-S2 because its MPEG-4?

The Humax can tune in MPEG-4 on DVB-S just fine.

If not how the ** can BBC HD be tuned and recieved.

Pretty much what you are using except for S/R 44950, see if that makes any difference.

Well i've tried everything to get this to scan in, but no luck! Tried scanning it in both DVB-S and DVB-S2 mode. I get a signal strength of 40% but can't lock it. I know my receiver can handle the symbol rate (i can get the package on 53E that uses 44950), i'm now putting it down to a weak signal with a high FEC (7/8), i normally need around 50% signal to lock up FEC's of 7/8

Just checked on King of Sat and it seems that these Russian channels are no longer HD and do not require MPEG4, can someone else check just in case I'm losing my marballs.

    Reply from Pace Micro

    DS810XE is specified as follows:
    DVB-S: 1 ~ 45 Msymbols/s
    DVB-S2: 10 ~ 30 Msymbols/s

Pace think that these channels are DVB-S on Express AM1

My System: Humax HDCI-2000 1m USALS Motorised Dish with 0.2 LNB
This is all very confusing! I am also frustrated that I am not able to pick up the Russian Channels at 40 East. I thought I was alone, but now I have found this thread, I can see that I am in good company.

It would appear to me that the broadcasters are using a hybrid system - MPEG4 normally goes with DVB-S2 for HD. This seems to be using MPEG4 with DVB or DVB-S.

I assume that the HDCI-2000 will not pick up MPEG4 unless it is in DVB-S2 mode ...?? Is that right? Is this the reason why the receiver will not recognise the signal? It should be able to tune to the symbol rate in DVB-S.

Has anyone had any success at all in receiving these channels? Do you think it is possible to "fool" the receiver into tuning to them if the channel list is downloaded into receiver using a client such as "formula"?

    Many thanks
