Is there something about goalies that makes Reading see red?!

What a Game, Reading kept up the pressure, deserved a point, not a Red card
Superb game, got a little bit wild at times, but I don't think that either goalkeepr incident were intentional and the team certainly don't have a history of that type of incident.
Not a good result for Reading, but then again, they probably weren't expected to win and to lose by only one goal was a face saver.

I don't think they were intentional either but I can't remember another game where both 2 goalies were KO'd!
A few future pub quiz questions in that game![]()

Ahhh..the good old days...Billy,Norman,Clarkie..will we ever see the day again!!
I see that Arsenal have been testing out the new Goalkeeping kit for their forthcoming game with Reading.

I know it wasnt intentional, but when the keeper has got the ball before you get there, you jump over him not run through him.Just inexperience I suppose.
But it caused a depressed fracture,so it was some force !
I've watched the video clip several times from a couple of angles and what appears to be the problem, is that the Reading player doesn't/can't change course and is committed with the slide, but the goalkeeper slides very quickly into him, he tries to lift his foot, but clips him with his knee. It isn't inexperience, just the slippery nature of the pitch and two very motivated players.
I'm pretty sure that any FA enquiry, with the benefit of all video angles, will vindicate the Reading player.

And we laugh at american football players for wearing all that padding and helmets.
I think those ice hockey keepers have got it right though.

"Chelsea Football Club can confirm that Petr Cech was transferred to the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford last night (Saturday) to the specialist neuro-surgical unit.
He underwent surgery for a depressed fracture of the skull...
Carlo Cudicini who was discharged last night after being knocked unconscious,....
"
Lets hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
I feel physically sick thinking about this. Poor Petr.
I really hope he's OK. One of the best keepers in the world, I hope it wasn't his last game.
Frankly I think Mourinho's and Chelsea's comments are laughable - there is no way it was intentional IMO, but I wasn't very impressed with the attitude of the Reading player or the reaction from the crowd. It was clear straight away that it was a very nasty injury.
Anyway, let's hope there's no significant brain damage. Just been reading up on the Internet about depressed skull fractures. Wish I hadn't now.

I don't think it was that clear, because if you watch the reaction of the Reading supporters at the end when Cudecini was carried off, they applauded him, there was no sign of derision.
Let's face it, fans these days are so used to seeing players rolling around in agony or looking poleaxed, only to spring up in 30 seconds, that perhaps they are initially a little cynical.

I don't think it was intentional, and two goalies out in one game is a freak. But to think the player would have intentionally put his knee to the head is stupid, as the knee is such a injury prone part for players...when players go in intentionally they usually go in with the studs or elbow, they won't risk a knee injury. In any case, Carlo will be up and running in a few days, and he is not a bad goalkeeper either... I wish Manchester had a reserve keeper as good as him!
Bl**dy right too!
I don't think the Reading fans were deriding Cech in the first incident, I just don't think they were paying him any respect. He was hardly rolling about.
I do agree that all the play-acting is wrecking football, and I hope that this sends a shiver down the spines of all those oscar-nominated morons.
At least it looks like he's going to make it. Carlo may even be back for next weekend.
S*d being a goalkeeper!![]()
