    Bosch 24v Cordless drill

Just thought I would share some info about how we resurrected one of my batteries for this drill today.

The fault was with a 3.0ah 24V battery. This battery has a 5 led system that shows the charge level of the battery. Over time the battery has retained a memory and would only charge to 3 lights then 2 until finally when putting it in the charger the charger would show a red light and not charge at all.

We took the unit apart and found 3 of the 10 cells showing no charge being held. We awakened these cells by quickly applying 4 volts to the battery the wrong way around about 4 or 5 times. Then using a separate power supply we noted that these cells were taking and holding a charge. We placed the unit back on the charger but it still showed red light and would not charge.

We then put two 12 Volt halogen lamps in series onto the battery and totally flattened it. We tried again in the charger but again the red light problem.

We then charged the battery using a separate power supply at about 34v and initially 3.4 amp (this falls steadily as the battery charges and got to about 0.68amps). The original charger supplies 43V. The power supply charged the battery fully to 5 lights in about 40 minutes - the original when new would take about 15 mins . When the 5th light came on we put it back in the correct charger and it charged for a further 5 minutes or so before beeping to say fully charged (no red light fault).

I now have a fully charged working battery.
I will report again about how it recharges etc in the future.

    Hopefully this may help someone

    Cheers Triggs

Touching wood here, have never had a problem with mine, aside from the fact that the LEDs don't work on the big battery, it still charges fully, as does the smaller reserve. It's more than six years old now.

i had the same problem with my makita 36volt battery, i got fed up and put a elastic band around the trigger and hung the drill up in the shed until it flattened on its own power , put the battery back in the charger and hey presto charges a treat now.

PS. got my new bosch 36v nicked from my van so i am left with 2 batteries and a charger if anyone wants to make me an offer.

Why not put them in our classified section George, just put a guide price and I'm sure someone will make an offer.
