    multi strand cable

    Hi guys

I need to route two cables from my LNB to my livingroom, I need one for the Digibox and one for the Qbox. Rather than have two cables side by side, is there a single cable with two cores?

    Thanks, TG

Even if there is such a cable, I wouldn't use it because they wouldn't have the same quality as the single ones.

Quality is not an issue, is only for a fixed dish for 28 east

It would be a non standard cable type, which means you might need to buy a minimum length (drum, spool, etc.)
Check in your local sat shop (if there is one) and see if they have such a cable in stock.
They would probably ask you to make a special order.
I could be wrong off course, but I try not to buy non standard parts.

By the way, whay would it affect quality?? If each one would have the same shielding it should not make a difference? I just think it would look much nicer having one thicker round cable than a few running alongside. Especially when they are visible from the outside.

I would expect Sky to use such a cable for their twin tuners receivers.
If they don't, then there must be a good reason for that.

    Here is one from Maplin
    _http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=219139&TabID=1&C=SO&U=strat15
The outer diameter of each one looks smaller than usual, which would affect quality.
Is black OK or do you need a different colour?

    Edit
One more, stating the length problem I mentioned above.
Not for outside the UK, because of shipment cost

Thanks HB, very useful information. Will try to locate something in Germany - I think it will look much neater than having two cables.

    twin cable

That coax is configured side by side and is only RG59 not RG6 type so has a large loss. Its ok to use for short distances but to be honest you wud be best off using two runs of rg6 CT100 WF100 etc as the loss is loads less. To secure the cable use flat clips like used for electricial cable clipped every 9 to 12 inches and it will look fine.

try to see if there is a german version of the twin wf100 cable as that will be enough for what you want

also over in germany is it only white or black cable that you can buy ? the uk has brown as well which matches better to the bricks used in houses

You can buy cable clips sepcifically for two wf100 or RG6 side by side.

Yeah we call that twin RG59 stuff 'shotgun cable', I've seen it in black and white. Sky installers seem to love it but I wouldn't use it myself.

Bit overkill but for future reference you can get Multi core CT100/RG6/WF100 with 4 or 5 lengths + earth in a single outer sheath.

Add the lengths required into the appropriate spaces and click.

There is some additional loss in voltage between the LNB and the receiver when using the RG59 type, owing to a slight increse in coaxial impedance, but it is negligible unless you are talking really long distances.
There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"

How long is the cable run TEEGEE?

I use the Sky WF65 on quite a few jobs, it is compact and the customers like it, works perfectly well for moderate cable runs and will fit through an existing 10mm hole.

I guess it is no more than 10 - 15 metres, not very long. It is just for the permanent dish pointing to 2D, so no motor. It is simply so I can connect the Digibox and the second tuner of the qbox to it

You can connect whatever you want to it, it isn't round, it is shotgun, so two cables side by side, only in white or black as mentioned earlier, or there is the WF100 shotgun, in Brown or Black.

What you can of course do, is run two lengths of WF100 or similar and use the twin cable clips, would have a similar effect.

at that distance the shotgun type cable will work fine, that's if you can get hold of it in germany.

Here is a twin coaxial cable from hm-sat.de

    _http://www.hm-sahop.de/montage-zubehoer-koaxialkabel/twin-koaxkabel.html

Doesn't look that good, especially as a 4mm diameter.

Here is something better, with 2x6.8 mm diameter

    _http://www.hmm-tv.de/K640--Twin-Koaxkabel-KH9-%3E80dB-100m-Ring.htm?hmm=f050c5341159a8d42efcd80bf6e3fa8c

    Cheaper spool

    _http://www.ac-sat-corner.de/shop/product_info.php?products_id=2266

    But minimum order is 100m

Use Google for more results with keywords:

    Twin-Koaxkabel or Twin Koaxkabel

My System: Motorised ASC 1.2m,1224 Supermount with C120 Invacom Quad LNB with Matched Feedhorn.
As Rolfw and wod have stated wf65 will be ok and prob ideal for you-i find it good up to around 20 metres and will fit through a standard 10mm hole, the biggest downside i find is the f connectors are only twist on and always seem to start twisting the outer sheath of cable no matter how carefully the braid is stripped.

I personnally use wf 100 whenever possible for twin cable runs-yes it is expensive,a larger hole needed 14mm, and bends can be difficult to run neatly. but low loss and can use compression/crimp connections.

There are both crimp and compression connectors available, I use the crimp connectors which are available from Alltrade, plus I have asked them to get the new Cablecon compression connectors in, work really well.

The compression is a new one from Cablecon, first shown at the CAI trade fair this month, what is really nice about it, is that it doesn't slide inside the outer, it fits over the top.

If you want to try a couple of the crimp ones, send me a PM and I'll send you a couple.

    crimp f types wf65

if you see a cable installer around stop and ask them they have compression f types for rg59 they work on wf65 used them myself for Sky+ installes. Also still have some of there rg11 conxs which fit on wf165 cable i use for long feed runs the compression tool i use does wf63/100/125 and 165 all in one tool. Alltrade i think do siamise rg6 in brown but long runs i just double up on wf100.Saves filling my van up of diffrent cable and is just as neat.

You learn every day indeed. This thread got me thinking about my own planned cable upgrade, and being space limited with regards to cable runs I did some more searching as well and came across the following:

    _http://www.triax.co.uk/Products/Cable,%20Connectors%20+%20Tools.aspx

Wouldn't it make a nice alternative to multiple runs as well (provided I find a reseller/distributor)?
