My System: medion satellite dish and reciever

Help!!! combining satellite and TV feed question

I want to know if it is possible to join together the cable from my satellite decoder box and the cable from my ariel which provides freeview channels, and run them through just one cable to my television, I am thinking that I could maybe just switch to av mode on the telly to view satellite channels? Am I way off the mark here?
The problem is that the cables to my TV are inside the wall and I can't just run another cable to the TV.
    Any help greatly appreciated

No you can't do it like that, but if you plug the aerial cable into the back of the satellite box, and feed the RF out of the satellite box into the lead that goes to the TV, you will then be able to 'tune into' the sat box with the TV. You may have to set a suitable channel number for the sat box to use, so that it doesn't interfere with TV channels.

Robbo, thanks. Now I am a little confused here, do you mean that I share the input to the satellite box with the satellite cable and the cable from the aerial? If so, will a normal satellite splitter work or do I use a diplexer?

    No,

All sat receivers have an F-connector for the dish input, but most also have two belling-lee type connectors (aerial plugs/sockets) for the TV aerial to loop through.

I.E you plug the TV aerial into the input and the output goes to the TV. The output will have whatever went in, plus the modulated video/audio from the sat box itself. If your box does not have these, then you can't do it like that.

The other, more expensive way, is to get a modulator and combine this with the TV arial coming in and feed that to the TV.

Are you sure you can't run an extra cable to the TV somehow?

The setup is a little difficult. All the cables for the dish and the aerial arrive in a cupboard, where the satellite box and digital tv signal booster are housed. From there another 2 cables run from the signal booster through the walls to two televisions. I am not bothered about having satellite on both tvs, just one would do. The connections on the back of the satellite box are as follows:
Spdif; coaxial and optical, video, svideo, serial port, tv scart, vcr scart, lnb in and if out, along with audio connections.

Then you need a UHF modulator I think. Price range between £20 an d£40 or thereabouts. . You will be able to get the satellite picture to both TVs. Do a google and a few will come up, you may be able to get one with RF loop through, so that you can feed the TV aerial in.

Or if you have an old video recorder kicking about, you can use that.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.
Is this a recent setup using satellite grade double screened cable?

If it is, then you can use a Diplexer in the cupboard to combine the feed from the dish with one of the TV feeds and then a diplexed or triplexed outlet plate to separate them again behind the TV.

In addition, these perform well for combining sat & UHF: _http://www.globalinvacom.com/products/diplexer.php

Yes, but the Sat box would have to go behind/near the TV instead of in the cupboard. A better option though, piture quality wise.
