My System: Sedea 60cm dish Metronic Touchbox3 receiver

    French TV

    Hi

I have a Sedea 60cm dish with Metronic Touchbox 3. I want to receive French TV. I have managed to point my dish at a satellite that gives me a lot of Italian shows with 2 french chanels (Direct8 and MontBlanc), but no TF1 etc..Can somebody tell me what satellite I am locked onto and how I should move the dish to receive proper french tele. I live in Liverpool and my dish is on a west facing wall.

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.
Well you are probably on Hotbird.

TF1 is not available FTA except in Analogue on Atlantic Bird 3 at 5W.

That Satellite also carries France 2,3,5 and Arte in both Analogue and Digital.

If you want Pay Packages, there are other options .............

Anyway, if you want to try 5W, which is just about the strongest Satellite available in the UK, turn your Dish about 18 degrees further West and raise it up two or three degrees. Can't miss it.

    Hi TIVU
thanks for the response. I have just realigned the dish as per your suggestion and I did manage to get the reference channel (GCPE1 and 2)for Atlantic 3. Unfortunately I could not receive any of the expected french channels (France 2 -5, Arte, LCP) although they did appear on my channel list after rescanning. I did however add as number of scrambled channels including FOX LIFE, MCM BELGIQUE and KAPAMILYA CHAN, amongst others. Am I close yet, any further advice would be much appreciated.

Well if they appeared in your Channel list, I don't understand why they are not viewable!

Select one of those Channels then whatever passes for an "Info" button on your Receiver: Should be 11591 V 20000 2/3 ...............

I am watching them right now.

    Further

The two GCPE Channels and the scrambled ones you mentioned are all on 12543 H 27500 3/4.

I'm wondering if perhaps the French Channels were already pre-stored, but something (eg Symbol Rate) has changed sometime since: Just edit the relevant Transponder parameters to match those in my previous Post.

    Yet More

As you are getting H Channels and the missing ones are V, another possibility is incorrect LNB Skew. The correct Skew is nigh on Zero, as you are very close to the top of the arc.

    Hi TIVU

okay I'll try and respond to your posts in order.

I have just come back inside after re-realigning my dish and this is what O have found.
When I autscanned the box I got the following data for atlantic; Quality 68% and Level 76%, this seems good to me but I stand to be corrected.
I tuned into GCPE 1 and pressed the info button on the remote and got the following
    TP Name 12.543
    Symbol Rate 27.5
    Quality 66%
    Level 76%

    I then tried France 2 for which I got the following;
    TP Name 11.590
    Symbol Rate 19.636
    Quality 10%
    Level 30%
Is it just a metter of editing the relevant TP's as you suggested or do I have more to do yet?

    Hi TIVU

LNB looks straight to me, but I'll check again.

No, you don't need to edit anything - the scan is reporting Frequency and symbol rate within the bounds of error.

The first thing to do is ensure the LNB is at zero skew.

If that doesn't solve the problem, you just need a tiny tweakette of the dish alignment.

Those Channels should blow your head off!

    Edit: Crossed in the Post!

What LNB are you using, by the way? If it happens to be a Fortec ****VN then further advice will follow ............ If it is any other Universal LNB, zero it should be. Actually, in either case, you need to optimise it anyway.

    Hi TIVU

LNB is unbranded (LNB Universal) it came with the dish, and is vertical 0%.

Will get back onto my bay window and "tweakette" when the rain stops.

    Thanks again for you advice.

No problem - just a small refinement to alignment will do it: The give away was the fact that the Channels you do get are, although perfectly acceptable, not as strong as I'd expect with a 60cm Dish on 5W. Quality should be near the max.!

Even a SkyToyDish gets them with plenty to spare.

    I gave up!

The best I could get for Quality was 30% so back to whatever it is I'm tuned into.
It still calls it Atlantic on my info but I do believe its Hotbird nonetheless.

    Hmm.

I don't suppose that there is an obstruction blocking line of sight to 5W, is there?

5W is stronger even than Hotbird!

In addition, as mentioned briefly, some LNb's zero reference isn't always shown clearly and the connector can be at a 45 degree angle. Should be a faint indication shown on the LNb itself.

Yep, as A/S said, the symbol rate should be something like 20000; i have 19978 which still works.
