i also have the same receiver. when i try to upgrade my unit the display changes to A001 briefly then shows E011. what went wrong? please help. thanks.

    steps i took:
    1. connect pc and receiver via null modem cable
    2. put receiver on standby (clock on display)
    3. run STB5518.exe (latest from satsw.com)
    4. browse/select *.bin, press Start
    5. display changes to A001 (briefly) then changes to E011
left it like this for 30 minutes, nothing happens...

I believe you should switch OFF and then ON again your receiver after you press START.

    Hope it helps.

Yes, i itried that too. When I turn the receiver ON (switch at the back) after pressing Start, the unit just goes ON (last channel viewed) -- no change or message on display.

Also, I tried to highlight "STB Setting" on the menu and press 1234 on the remote and nothing happens.

If it would help, here is the info shown on "About STB":
    Date: 2004-07-08
    S/W ver: 6.4.1
    Loader: 1.1.2
    Model: SR-X1500D Super MK II
    Company: STARSAT
    URL: www.star-sat.com

Also, when the E011 appears on the display, the STB5518 window (PC screen) shows "Send:5" (sent 5 bytes only?).

    Thanks for the help.

    help me, please....
or maybe tell me to get a hammer to smash my MKII and just get a better one -- a 200CI, perhaps?
    but please say something...
    thanks.

I have no experience with the MKII....my knowledge is limited to the common features among Starsat receivers......but if you are going to buy a new one....200CI is ok, but make sure you get it with Model ID E224, and Hardware version 2.00

Is there a way to know the Model ID and Hardware version without turning on the receiver? Written on the box somewhere?

    Thanks for the reply.

    Cheers!

DeepDiver, thanks for the assistance. I think it was the fact that I was using a USB-to-serial interface. About 200CI+, is there a problem with H/W ver7.00?

mdagohoy, thanks for the upgrade: mul**visio*, pl*yb*Y, CNN, E*roSpor*s, etc. No TFc yet -- maybe because of dish alignment and no AtlanticBird3 Info in new S/W.

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP, GUYS!

No prob with h/w ver7.00, just when you go and download the update from satsw.com , make sure you get the 200CI_V7 file.
