My System: universal 6ft satellite dish with melbon receiver

How to install 2x4 Multiswitch to dual output lnb ?

Currently i have 2 stb connected through splitter with power pass on 1 port to single output dual polarity cband lnb ,as of now the master stb is recieving all channels and slave recieving only vertical channels , this is ok for me,

now i have 2 stb , in future i intend to use 3 stb that too independently (all should be able to access h and v signals at their own will ), so just by adding a dual output cband lnb and attaching it to a 2x4 multiswitch will solve my problem ,can you tell me how multiswitch works, from which stb will it take power from , and How to install Multiswitch to dual output lnb ? it is as simple as a just connecting wires , how will multiswitch will set the two output of dual output lnb as h and v ? will it do it automatically?

ps: i am using to recieve channels from intelsat 10 ,68.5 east. all stbs are meant to recieve the same channels from satellite

i want to clear my one doubt . that is that multiswitch set the one output of dual lnb as h and other as v ,an it does this by constantly supplying 18 and 13 volts respectively , i want to know where does multiswitch gets this power from. please clear this doubt

To use a multiswitch you need a Quattro LNB (not a Quad) - a twin will not work.

A quattro LNB has dedicated outputs (Horizontal High, Horizontal Low, Vertical High and Vertical Low) which the multiswitch takes and distributes as required.

Multiswitches usually come with 5 inputs - 4 for the LNB and 1 for an ordinary TV aerial and/or FM radio. Multiswitches are available with various numbers of outputs (4, 8, 12, 16, etc) so choose the one that will cover all your needs now and in the future.

Multiswitches get their power from a separate power supply that you have to plug into the mains electricity. I believe that there is at least one which takes its power from all the satellite receivers plugged into it but I haven't used one. There are also a few multiswitches that can use a quad LNB but if you have to buy a new LNB (and you do!) then buying a quattro means that you have a wider choice of multiswitches.

The outputs from the multiswitch can go directly into the satellite receiver (two if required for a PVR) but you can also put a diplexer or triplexer at the end of the coaxial cable. This separates out satellite signals from the TV and FM and gives two or three separated ouputs - useful if you have an ordinary TV and quality radio.

I started to write this reply yesterday but then found a Labgear MSE240 on an obscure website which claims to do what OP says -feed 4 receivers from a dual LNB, so you must lose the band switching (I would guess)

I found two hits for the Labgear MSE240, both in South Africa. The UK Labgear site doesn't recognise the number which suggests to me that it isn't suitable for our use.

They claim full frequency IF coverage so I don't understand it at all.

Wild thought. Maybe it's for C band?

Back in the analogue days I used to use 2in 4out multiswitches (MiniMagics from Global) for multiroom installations with dual lnbs (single band) and still have 2 working units in my spares box. Single band Ku lnbs are still made by Swedish Microwave so there must still be applications for them somewhere in the world - see here
    _http://www.smw.se/LNBDRO.htm.
This was of course back in the days before extended band and universal (band switching) lnbs.

To the OP many multiswitches obtain their power from the receivers connected to them others need seperate power supplies.

Only for modern universal Ku band multiswitches

Agreed but surely that's what the OP really needs?

That depends on what services he is after in India, there are quite a few single Ku band services in that area including Thaicom at 78.5 E and Insat at 83 E. A universal lnb and multiswitch would be totally unnecessary. You are thinking too much about requirements for the European markets.
