I fail to see the logic in that paragraph from the link
Subscription to most means 'to pay' for something. The BBC always gave the cards out if they thought they would be used in the UK, and now they are transmitting in the clear on a reduced footprint satellite,to stay within the limitations of most film/programme rights. If anything it shows they are not the ones that are out to gain anything except save paying the companies that are fleecing the viewers in return for a muddled group of pro - English speaking channels
