I am considering switching to an Irish card from an english (london) card. Could someone please direct me to info as to whether the availability of the channels via an irish card is any different to that of an english card.
Thanks

The Irish card will give you Channel 4, Channel 4+1, More 4, E4 and E4+1 from 12480, V, meaning you'll receive them on your EPG from Astra 2A rather than Astra 2D.
You'll lose ITV from the EPG and gain the RTE's, TV3, 3E,and TG4 but you can add ITV from 12402, V and view it through other channels.
Think that's about it........what's your location???

Denis1501, thank you. I am in Warsaw, Poland. Do all the sports channels behave the same way? I thought I read sth about the irish Sky sports channels not being available in the fringe.
Cheers

Irish card takes Sky Sports 1 from 12148, H on Astra 2A. If you get no signal then you can add the UK version from 12110, H to your 'other channels'. This UK version works 100% fine with the Irish card.

Also there are differences with Setanta - e.g today Sunderland V Man U 3pm is available on Setanta Sports 1 (ROI) but not with a UK card. But beware it can work the other way too.
Setanta Ireland uses Eurobird S1 - so look at www. lyngsat to give you all the frequencies.

Does anyone know whether RTE is like BBc1 or BBC 2? In warsaw, I can typically pick up some regional variations of BBC1 on a 2m dish, but never BBC2. ITV gets dodgy in the evenings.
Does anyone have experience of receiving RTE? Is it as strong as BBC1?
Thanks

At my location RTE is slightly stronger than BBC etc but that may not be the same for you where you are.
yes i understand, ive still got Sky subscribed to a house which i let in the UK. A few months back though I ordered a free sat from Sky card to my mothers house in Belfast for a friend, they took all my details and told me to phone back if I ever wanted to upgrade it to one of the Sky packages. This may be a solution to you as you don't need an engineer to call round and install anything, they just post a card.
