    Panasonic TU-DSB30 card activation probs

    Sorry long story......

I have a Panasonic 30 box which hasn't been used in 2 years, connected box and dish up and receiving all free view channels, so far so good

Phone Sky to get full package upgrade, they send me a new Sky card that requires activating, so far so good

New card arrives and phone Sky for activation, ran through procedure and card activation fails, fails numerous times, not good now

I have checked phone lines and all connections, everything A ok, I do a forced update and that goes ok, I think,

Now I can't get into service menu to activate Sky card

    service
    4,
    5,
    0 1 select ( nothing happens here)
    6 select select

Ant help accepted, don't want to buy another box as will get Sky+ after christmas , just want to watch the Sky I have signed upto for 1/2 price 3 months

    Cheers

    Hi Antz,

    Unless it's changed recently, the installer menu is Services > 4 > 0 > 1 > Select.

Can you do a new installation if you try that?

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. A Foxsat HDR which moves with me between the UK and France. Main TV: UK Philips 42PFL9632; France 47PFL9632 My lovely little lappy, Toshiba Satellite Pro L20
Afew things spring to mind. Firstly, if the Panny hasn't been used for 2 years then the operating system and EPG will be deperately out of date. Check the versions

    service
    4,
    5,

and post the results back here. Someonewith a Panny will be able to tell you.

Secondly, to get int the service menu it's

    service
    4,
    0 1 select

although with out of date S/W you may still be stymied. Pannies are known troublemakers and may not even update after such a time. You can force an update by disconnecting from the mains and waiting a few moments. Hold the backup button on the Panny in (NOT the remote) and reconnect the mains. Wait untill all the lights come on the front of the box and then leave it alone until they go off. If your box is connected by scart lead to the TV then you can follow the progress.

But, as I say it may not update and all you'll be left with is a doorstop...

Hi Polomint thanks , trying it out and got into set up menu but still get this call back failed message when trying to activate card.

Hi PaulR thanks for info, I had done the forced update when I first connected the box up

    After update:
    Model number 1.2.F
    EPG 3.5.3

Everything about the box seems fine it just won't activate the card.

When the card is in the box, will the box display the card serial number? (It should be in one of the system details menus under one of the 'services' options)

can Sky authorise the card any other way besides using the call back to confirm using the box modem ?, as I'm wondering if I have a faulty modem in the box

Yes, if you phone them up and give them the box+card serial numbers they should be able to activate the card over the air. Tell them you can't plug the box in at the moment (not a long enough phone line or something) if they ask you to do a callback. If you say you think your box is faulty they might just offer to send someone out at £65+

If you are in Scotland *wink* you could tryout that new test menu. I am not by my box at the mo (so I forget the menu name) - but its the menu that gives you a code (sic) - then you phone Sky and they do a diagnostic (apparently) ,-))

Make sure your digibox is connected to the phone line.

This might help determine whether your MODEM is defect: if that is of major concern, that is

That EPG looks like an old one, you may need to try several times to get the latest version, but it isn't the EPG which controls the box, it is the operating system version.

Hi guys, thanks for all the help, had to relinquish the PC for a while to her that must be obeyed ;o)

Called Sky, and wangled an over air activation, took 3 hours, called Sky back as card activated but no channels, got my card upgrade as requested and everything is hunky dory.

Hopefully the box lasts till I get my Sky plus and eventual HD box.

Thanks one and all especially Polomint for the line being to short to reach box idea.
