Hi friends ..
After much messing around trying to accurately align my dish/motor setup ..
I've come to the conclusion ..most of my remaining inaccuracies are down to play in the motor ..
Origional setup is a Triax 110 (steel dish) on a Moteck SG2100.
Its given good service for approx 2 years ...but the changing climate ..and the more frequent periods of high-gusting winds ...I suspect are the reason for failure.

Im lucky enough to have a south facing wall ..and the whole assembly is wall mounted with around a 25-30% of the dish poking up higher than than the roof..when pointing south.

Im sticking with moteck but am going for the 2100a which doesn't have the 'moveable zero position' feature..
This has caused me problems in the past ..
..but cannot find the max load for the motor as it doesn't appear in the spec.
I do however think a less weighty dish than my 110 steel is a must.
Surfing around I do keep seeing mention of a triax TDA110 ...presumably this is an aluminium version of the steel 110 ?
..but does it actually exist ..as I can find no one who stocks it ?
If it is a bit of and enigma ..I'm chasing ...
Can anyone recommend a 1.1mtre replacement in aluminium ...and finally would the change of material result in any reduction in gain ?

Thanks for any input.

How about the Gibertini 1.04m?

Thanks for the reply m8 ..
I certainly wouldn't discount the Gilbertini ..
The only reason I was pushing toward the TDA110 was reception on weak sats such as Nilesat ..
I know I can get those elusive vertical txpdrs in the evening ...with my steel 110.
I'd be dropping the dish size marginally ..but how do Gilbertini compare for gain and beamwidth with the triax ?

I think you'd be hard pushed to discern any difference in performance.

Certainly I wish I'd got one as, like you, I find the weight of the TD110 somewhat excessive. My Triax is now on a Patio Mount rather than a Wall Mount!

I can only dream of mounting so low to the ground ..
It would require the demolition of my back wall ...the removal of 2 trees ...and lowering the roof of a neighbours house ..to make visible the arc I can currently 'see'
;)

..dont think the thought hasn't crossed my mind 'O'-red
lol
cheers

A backlash adjustment may improve matters...Google SG2100 backlash adjustment.

The Gibertini 104cm will be as good as or if not slightly better performance than the Triax 110.

Thanks for the suggestion m8..
I will perform the adjustment ..and bring the motor back to spec ...when I bring it down the pole.
I still would prefer to replace it with the later version (a) though as I don't like the idea of a moveable 'zero' and has caused me much grief ..in the past .

..By having the zero point 'un-fixed' it means that you have no fixed point to recalibrate to ..
..and its almost impossible to set and calibrate the zero pointer hanging backwards up a ladder ...with your head between under the dish..
You can end up 1/2 a degree or more out ..quite easily.
Moteck must have been aware of this oversight ..and did away with it in later models.

by the sound of your dish location you might be better off changing the diseqc motor for a polar mount and actuator motor.

if your getting issues with the strong winds we have in the uk.

i've changed to 36volt motor and now no trouble with windy weather.

Hi Wod

I have thought about it ...but its a question of practcality ..
The cabling for my system is installed through the roof space ...and down inside the wall cavity ..then under the floor and the final metre is under the plaster to a wall terminal..
Quite a cable run even for hi quality coax ..
The only way I can see it being practical ..is to run power into the roofspace and locate a vbox up there permanently ...
..thus breaking into the coax line to get diseqc commands to the vbox ..
Certainly no way to control the vbox directly with a remote control ..as getting it into the same room as the receiver would be very difficult.
