I was pretty pleased yesterday with getting a TP on 66E, less pleased today when I couldn't get anything on 72E or 75E, and now am moderately happy again because I can get pretty much everything on the Europe and Africa beam of 68.5E with the 1m Gibi XP. SNR between 5 and 6dB, easily watchable, insofar as evangelical programming is watchable :) It also seems to carry some German programming (encrypted). Backup feeds?

68.5e was always strong for me on my Penta 85 but variable signal due to atmospherics. Try 70.5e - the Canadian pack. It's encrypted but you should get a lock on it. I had a lock on 72.1e as well but a very brief one and I don't think there's anything beaming down towards uk from there now. It was barely above horizon here at about 1 degree...

Tried 70.5E but no dice :( I think it's too low for me. One day the trees 200m or so away may fall down, but I may have to wait a little longer for the mountains :) I'll check with a spirit-level and a protractor at the weekend (the satellite-finding phone apps will load on my tablet but don't show the sat positions for some reason ).

Don't give up. This sat was barely above horizon for me and I had to wait for the atmospherics to do their thing to get a lock. Send the dish there and leave it for a few minutes, watching the signal screen.

For 72.1 I think I sat 5 mins waiting for it to come in!

Was clear yesterday - I tried early evening then late evening. You sat watching it for 5 minutes waiting for it to come in? And people say watching test cricket is boring ;)

(guess how I'll be spending my evening.... :) )

It is....

Here's the thread with the signal lock. There is only one transponder on the Europe beam right now and that's only for feeds.

Dont forget C-band! Though only 1 transponder left anymore. Kenya multistream channels gone from 3732L and KBC1 now on 3740L. It is quite easy 24/7 in Finland.

Finland has elevation advantage. It's not 1 degree above horizon there!

Thats true sure but I thinking only that there´s quite strong signals from 72.1E (C-band) and maybe she given something after mentioned 5 min waiting:)

Years ago when 43W was some latin Ku-channels (2.0° here) I saw them but "watching" was 10 sec strong picture then fading out and back again about 1 min later. It wasn´t very enjoyable but I got these channels:p

Elevation isn't *too* bad for me - 7.9°. According to dishpointer I should be OK if the trees (150m away) don't exceed 21m. I *might* get away with it - I'm starting to wonder if I'm hitting motor limits.

For reasons of domestic harmony, equipping myself with a large enough dish for C-band isn't really an option :)

Yep, thats common and reasonable reason. What a pity at a same time, because there´s sooo much goodies to discover from 4 Ghz.

Moteck SG2100A

hxxp://bfsat.fr/home/228-moteur-de-parabole-diseqc-12-motorisation-3760211220501.html

According to the documentation it can cover 150° (assuming I've read it correctly), and I'm at 6.4°E . 75+6=81 so I guess I should be OK.....

Edit: I haven't read it correctly. Azimuth for 72.1 E is 108°, ie. 72° off due south so that should be OK. I can get 45W on the other side, azimuth 240°, so 60° on the west.

OK, I am at 2.7W and my Moteck clone didn't even reach 66E until I removed all the hardware limit "tabs" inside the motor. Then it allowed me to go to 68.5E...

Dark Motor went to 72.1E without any modifications... but it was almost at the very limit.

Because there´s sooo much goodies to discover from 4 Ghz.

Indeed there is. I wouldn't mind a small-ish dish for Ku to "watch" things (not that I do that much, anyway) and a large dish with a good arc coverage for C band. Central Europe is the best location really as you get the best of both worlds there - east and west. Though there's not much to watch before 45W...

Btw and off topic (again:D ) but I got 1st time 2.9E Rascom on wednesday. Quite bad C-band beam there and I´ve been only for fun checked it every now and then. Maybe its because of new C-Lnb but now I get Congo channels during evenings. No signal at all from wake wake to about 7pm but after 9pm its been Congotime and you should see my wifes face when I´ve been celebrated it:-clap:lol:
