number 1 I'd take a good guess at ...

Try as I might I can't get above 11 on number 7 ...
12 if you include both versions of 'bracket'

3 - Can think of one as we've just planted some. Struggling for a second.

Well in fairness re the punctuation I spent half an hour researching this last night as I could only get 13 as well and it seems we are correct, however even the definitions of English grammar are different depending on there you look


So although an hour early, I am off out soon so here are the answers

2. North American landmark constantly moving backward: Niagara Falls .... The rim is worn down about two and a half feet each year because of the millions of gallons of water that rush over it every minute.

3. Only two vegetables that can live to produce on their own for several growing seasons: Asparagus and rhubarb.

4. The fruit with its seeds on the outside:Strawberry.

5. How did the pear get inside the brandy bottle? It grew inside the bottle. The bottles are placed over pear buds when they are small, and are wired in place on the tree. The bottle is left in place for the entire growing season. When the pears are ripe, they are snipped off at the stems.

6. Three English words beginning with dw: Dwarf, dwell and dwindle...

Well for the pendants amongst us (including me) I think you could add Banana as an answer to Q8 and I'd discount hyphen - as an answer as if you accept it as correct, you'd have to accept + as well and that's a mathematical symbol.

Well for the pendants amongst us (including me) I think you could add Banana as an answer to Q8 and I'd discount hyphen - as an answer as if you accept it as correct, you'd have to accept + as well and that's a mathematical symbol.

Whilst it is true bananas are eaten straight from the skin but they are also cooked, dried, mashed, chipped and pureed.

Well my 13 didn't include the ellipsis or stroke/slash (see what I did there) and I had the dash, hyphen and minus as one (with the option of splitting it into an m-dash and an n-dash for my fourteenth). I made the single quotation mark into four by separating single and double quotes and then separating again into left and right.

Jumpimg back I got asparagus, as wife has just planted some crowns in France and the UK. I thought of rhubarb (which wife also grows) but discounted it for some stupid reason.

I got dwarf and dwelling but if we're including Americanisms I want dweeb as well.

I had socks, shoes, sandals, slippers and stillettos(!). I'd like to add sandboots now to make my six.

And finally I'd like wonder out loud why the interrobang never became popular.
