My mate is still dithering about ditching S_y but wants to still see full F1 coverage, so he's going to borrow an old box of mine to watch RTL on 19E. When he gets around to buying a box, there's a confusing array of 'newer/bigger/better/cheaper,' although relatively obscure boxes appearing with ever more facilites; e.g. XBMC.

I realise that this is a 'how long is a piece of string' type question, but does anyone have a view these boxes - e.g. Evo Xfinity?

I'm using a dreamlink android box on this side of the pond mainly for streaming movies but it can be a bit dicey at times. I'm sure there will be much more stable tech in the months to come. Sorry m8 but no evo in this neck of the woods.

I use a minix neo 8 android box, not a satellite receiver, just an android box.

Its one of the best boxes out there.

The newer VU+ receivers have XBMC running on them now, but still quite buggie. But allot of the plugins working on them now :)

Vu+ Zero? That's a new one... Will want a new multi-tuner receiver soon as I am tired switching 4 LNBs between 4 receivers down a single LNB cable...

Nice little bedroom receiver! You can also watch the recordings on the pvr VU+ receivers if all connected via your network :)

Android receivers are the new kids on the block. The satellite receiver section of whst is essentially a media box are controlled by what are essentially another app. It should be possible for enthusiasts to write their own apps for this. With access to the Play Store you are not dependent on the manufacturer to keep access to, for instance, YouTube up to date.

The Amiko Spark 2 which appears under other names in other markets has a particularly impressive specification with blind search and a rerechargeable remote which has voice and gesture control built in. I would love to test one out!

Whether or not Android will superceed Linux or not time will tell.
