Hi,

Does anyone on here use internet by satellite, or know someone that does? Was looking at skyDSL2 (I don´t think its one of Uncle Rubies companies). Any good for streaming iptv?

Cheers

Lots of remote farms round here have satellite broadband as the wires wont support ADSL!

Tends to be rather expensive though and I would imagine you could chew through your data allowances rather quickly.

Might be worth looking into the microwave internet providers. They seem cheaper and you can get up to 50 meg.

I looked into it and decided Blend (WiMax) was a better option. I read a lot of bad reports about the satellite solution. There is no data limit with Blend, the speed varies from 2M to 10M but is generally around 7M. It is not very good for streaming for some reason, but I use Sky On-Demand anyway which downloads as as opposed to streaming.

Yes, tried Blend. My friend had it streaming no problem, but mine stutters. Only a few feet away from each other, but on a different mast. Hoping to get it changed to the mast he is pointed to.

Correct, you need a landline to send a request, and then you download from the satellite. So it is good to download stuf or receive large files, but uploading is as slow as before.

Satellite internet is now 2way so no need for a landline and upload speeds can beat adsl speeds but it costs a fortune + the bandwidth is capped unless you pay silly money

Its no good for online gaming due to the turn-around lag at the satellite but I can't see why you couldn't stream over satellite (as long as you had enough bandwidth left for the month)

This firm is usually the supplier suggested for satellite internet here (when all else fails)

http://www.tooway.com/

It has a handy useage calculator and links through to installers Europe wide...

Interesting. I am on the Salobre mast, which ones are you and your friend on?

Thanks for the feedback. The company said "the system is not designed for continuous streaming" so no good.
