Bigger than anything I have. It's more to do with the power supply of modern TV's causing issues when on the same ring main as the hub. I'll look for links.

(so maybe I've got a neighbour with a dodgy aircon!

Has anyone managed to self-diagnose/self-fix this sort of problem? Ferrite beads on the BT line? Wrap head in foil?
You could try using a program called pingplotter. Keep it running and see if the trouble correlates with anything in your neighborhood, like passing trains. A friend tried it with his adsl problem, turned out to be a ventilation fan in the attic.

Good luck getting BT to fix the problem. Don't bother to ring customer services unless you are fluent in Punjabi. Most of the BT call centre staff don't have an adequate grasp of the English language, and if you are lucky enough to get one that can speak English you cannot understand them and visa versa.

Ask for help on the BT forum, you will have more chance of getting the problem resolved.

Its more than likely an issue with the twisted pair from the cabinet to your house. If it gets worse during inclement weather it could be an indication of water ingress into the twisted pair.

If that was a reply to me Nano then nope they did that already and they did some major cab repairs I suspect they raised the cabinet out above the water table as it is situated next to a stream and used to flood if it rained or a dog took a leak against it, but still no better.

Most of the BT reps that I have spoken to when asked have stated they were in Bangalore or Mumbai in India, hence the Punjabi bit. I'm just making a point that considering BT is a British Company, it would be nice to speak to somebody that could actually converse with me fluently in my own language which just happens to be English, not Punjabi, not Urdu or what ever language these cretins in BTs foreign call centres use.

As with most companies in the UK BT put profit before their customers. They may be saving a few quid by out sourcing their customer services to some far flung part of the world, but this is costing them paying customers.

This is one of the main reasons why I will be canning them at the end of the minimum term, they are utterly useless as a communications company. I hope the Original poster gets his fault fixed, but by experience BT only ever try to sort the issue out when you give them notice to end the contract.

Exactly why I tend to go to a small, uk based company for my internet connection. At least in case of a problem, I speak to someone in UK. A lot of companies will also manage your phone line, which will usually be from BT. BUT! They will deal with any issues, instead of battling with sub-continental call centres.

It costs a few quid more, but worth every penny...

I agree. PlusNet even speak proper Yorkshire!

And they are cheaper than BT (Despite being owned by BT).

Yes I have considered Plusnet but then I would have to pay for everything that is currently free and for a free service I suppose it is not that bad just frustrating, streamed qualifying yesterday and only had a couple of minor interuptions

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

We're with Primus, and when you call them up, you get through to a call centre in the Prestige Building in Burnleh, some of whom the mother actually used to work with too when she worked in a call centre in Harlesyke... :p

The only issue with Primus is the lack of line features (such as caller ID, voicemail and whatnot), and the ADSL can be a bit slow (today we seem to be getting a whopping 2Mbps, faster than usual), and initial ordering can be a bit of a PITA, but otherwise it's pretty reliable when it gets going, despite the flak they get on the MSE forum... :)

Repairs to our broken (on 2 occasions) line arranged through (carried out by Openreach, who aren't BT, even though they are owned by BT, weirdly :confused ) them were done within a couple of days, so they're nice to deal with... :)

Well, apart from the day that BT visited, I haven't noticed it being a problem since, so maybe the new router is more resiliant. It's very unpredictable so it's just a matter of wait and see

The new modem didn't solve it so we had another visit from BT last Tuesday. Engineer switched us to a different pair of cores from the pole to the cabinet, which seems to have solved the problem. I haven't noticed any interruptions in the last 6 days so, here's hoping.
