BBC Shows Coming to U.S. iPads Next Year

The BBC will be launching an iPad version of its popular iPlayer video-streaming service, with an initial rollout in the U.S., the company revealed today. The player will be subscription-based and won't arrive until next year.

"It's still very early days," a BBC spokesperson told PCMag. "The final proposition is still being worked out. It's a global app that will be available in certain key territories. English-speaking territories are the areas that [the BBC] is going to focus on, and North America is an obvious choice."

Exactly which BBC shows will be available on the service hasn't been determined. In the U.K., the iPlayer currently lets you stream many BBC shows for free, but only episodes
