Have you asked for a satellite-related present for Christmas, or treated yourself to a new bit of kit to play with over the holidays?

Speaking for myself, I've requested an Opticum Quad LNB. If I'm lucky enough to get it, it'll be interesting to see how it performs. Somehow I doubt it will beat the Inverto Black Ultra single....

I just bought myself another Opticum Quad as I was impressed with the first one I got, but I don't think I'll be putting it in my stocking. If you need more than one output it's worth getting.

I also bought 100 f connectors as I'm always running out of the damn things. Hopefully this will keep me going for a while...

Four outputs would be ideal as I have both a Sky receiver and a Humax Foxsat HDR, but unless I can get hold of a more efficient dish, probably 1m80, I imagine I'll have to stick to the Black Ultra single LNB.

So many letters seem to get lost (pilfered?) here, that it's quite common to send things certificado, the Spanish equivalent of registered.

Actually I was being a bit sarcastic, in my experience the French postal service has been really good. Not sure if they handle 'letters to Papa Noel' in the same way that they do in the UK. As I've found during the past 13 years, there can be a vast cultural chasm between the UK and France as well as the difference in language...

Here in Galicia the poor functioning of Correos has meant an incredible number of courier services have been set up. They cause different problems, like leaving parcels where they shouldn't, and not delivering at all because they assume we're on holiday when we aren't!
I've never written to Papa Noel, and I would say in Spain there isn't much of a tradition of sending Christmas cards.

I don't think I've ever had a letter or parcel go missing with "La Poste", anything I order from Amazon (be it UK, FR or DE) can invariably be tracked online and I find it's accurate. If there's something that can't go in my post box they come to the door and sound the van horn to let you know they are outside. Always pleasant, friendly and with a smile. I know there is 'Papa Noel' here but whether the children send him letters I'm not sure......

I think here we suffer from a bit too much corruption, from the royal family downwards, although on a personal level the people are friendly and I'm very happy living in Galicia.

Getting back to the original topic, my wife's Christmas stocking is also going to include something related to satellite reception, namely a brand new remote control for the Sky TV box. The 0, 1 and Select buttons are nearly worn out.

Great news - Christmas stocking did contain an Opticum Quad LNB, along with a Citroën Méhari! May go out for a play later, but pretty cold here, and after a couple of glasses of Cava, and a bit too much Christmas pudding....

Can we see it on the Testcard thread? Talking about Test Cards, The other day I was wearing my Testcard stamp watch, a present from my daughter, and I asked my group of ten Spanish teenagers what they thought of it. Only one knew what a test card was, so I explained the principle, and taught them how to say it in Spanish, carta de ajuste, and Galician, mira de axuste!

Hmmmm, spoke too soon, it locked up last night and after disconnection shows 9999 on the front panel

So I'll check the psu tomorrow for dodgy capacitors, a read up shows C4 is a popular culprit.
