Our caretaker was brilliant and regularly unblocked the refuse chutes without much complaint. We often took the HA to task about the quoted costs for remedial work and 'improvements'. I was one of three leaseholders in the block (of about 20 residents in total) so the service charges and additional one off payments were not only exhorbitant but not up for much discussion or negotiation. Whether or not some cash ended up in brown envelopes was often hinted at by residents but of course flatly denied. In the end I gave up and managed to persuade the HA to purchase the lease back and I went back to renting...</p></blockquote><p></p>
