Firefox 29: A Load Of Carp?

Yes, I too looked into this: Whilst it can be installed in Linux Mint with a few lines of code in a Terminal, I'm going to wait to see if it gets put into the Repositories - There is pressure for this to happen.

But all the reviews I've read are extremely positive.


To be fair, though, as stated earlier, once one has done a bit of tinkering and applied the Classic Theme Restorer extension, FF29 is actually not the mess it first seemed.

Firefox is now 29.0.1

I wonder why the update was so quick.

Not in major Linux Distros it isn't: Fortunately we are spared the frequent .x.y updates and only get updates when they're considered by those who populate the repositories to be necessary.

I expect that's because the updates are only necessary for operating systems which are crap and easily broken by just one character in the wrong place.

Windoze in other words.

FF is awful here now - Youtube music videos wont run all the way through without the music stopping dead about two thirds of the way through. It'll then take anything up to 2 or 3 minutes for the est of the tune to appear.

Chrome works fine, so its not (just) our lousy bb 1 meg connection

In 29.0.1 they fixed the issue of not being able to print PDFs.

Interesting: I still have 29.0 and printed a couple of .pdf Bills only yesterday

Can't imagine why, but maybe it only affected 29.0 running under Windows ?



Edit: Just tracked down the Bug Report and it was indeed related to Windows.

I ended up disabling the built in PDF viewer as it often didn't display things correctly and the printing issue was the final straw.

Have downloaded the Pale Moon portable to my Usb stick that also contains Opera mobile ( usb64 ), google chrome portable and firefox portable.
Look forward to getting the time to test and compare them
