Hi. I have taken the plunge and just purchased a Freesat+ HD PVR 320Gb storage, a zone 2 - 60 cm dish, 100m of cable and a sat finder meter. Looking at the various sites it tells me I need to align to the Astra A,B,C or D satellite.

On dishpointer.com the angle that I need to point the dish means the positioning of it on the house will be unsightly (front). I used to have sky and the dish pointed in the opposite direction meaning it could go on the back of the house.

Do I need to align with the Astra satllites or is there an alternative?

Any help greatly appreciated.:confused

Thanks Graham

Hi Graham, Freesat is on the same sat system as SKY
Point your dish in the same direction as your SKY dish and you will find the signal from Freesat.........on Astra 2d.......good viewing.

For your location, position the dish to a rough 146° for the Astra2/Eb1 satellites. Elevation (El) dead straight/vertical. Once rough azimuth setting is achieved, you can use an inline signal meter with micro-adjustments to get a lock on the satellite. Adjust the azimuth in small movements in either direction, repeat whilst raising or lowering the dish El.

Once locked onto the satellite, you'll receive all transmissions from this slot (freesat).

Thanks for the reply.

I got rid of my sky about five years ago. Is it still on the same satellite please? It looks really tight on dishpointer. The house next door to me, towards the direction of the Astra satellite, is higher than mine.

I have a powered sat finder meter (albeit a cheap one from e-bay) I take it before I make a fixing to the wall I should hold the dish in approximately the right direction and see what signl I get?

Thanks again.

Graham

Assuming it was on 28e and not the older analogue at 19e.

Holding the dish by hand and your more likely going to get readings from any of the high powered satellites close by and you won't know where you are.

It's the same position as the skydigital dish/system. Fix it to the wall and make small adjustments whilst checking with the receiver if your locked.

ASTRA2 @ 28.2e

Please don't get confused with FREESAT & FREEVIEW. The latter is received as a terrestrial signal :)

It wasn't so difficult after all, was it?

Now you have the confidence to go and do some more satellite dish installations!!

If the trees are truly in the line of sight, then yes, you may get strength without quality.

You could of course also be looking at the wrong satellite.
