Great job! How's the stability of the whole assembly?

Oddly (and worryingly) enough, I had a dream about your dish last night that it was wobbling. But when I came to see it, it was actually mounted on a stab motor.....

Good job VS.
Are you thinking of installing a steering gaiter, over the jack, for a little added protection?

More worrying than the wobble Alex ..is that you are dreaming about my trips to the world of heath robinson..
lol
Cheers Micka ..and yes I may well retrofit a 'gaiter' at some point.

Just placed an order for a couple of these 'flanged bearings' ...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400490300918?ru=http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=400490300918&_rdc=1
at the price I'm not too worried if I can't use them ..
But am hoping they might be fitted by drilling out the cast ally holes on the motor mount ...inserted with the flanges to the inside ....and secured with M10 stainless Nylock nuts applying pressure to each flange ...having replaced the M10 nuts n bolts with a single 6 inch stainless steel 1cm threaded bar running right through side to side..
Hope you can visualise this ..
More to the point ...I hope it's feasible .
My main worry will be drilling out the ally hinge points under the motor case ..and although it's about 1cm thick ...might weaken it somewhat.
The yellow unmarked spacers would be washers made from Teflon...
The whole dish will have to be disassembled and the motor removed for this one.
Not a job I relish much...so maybe it might not get done this year.
We shall see.

...Oh ..and if anyone has a better suggestion ..I'd love to hear it ..
:D
But it must be based around M10 (1cm) axle...

A flanged bearing is a decent idea as that's what some polar mounts use.

However, my personal experience is that the threaded rod bar through the whole thing will introduce a tiny bit of play. Probably not enough to be a show stopper but it's put my off using these. That said, if your existing construction is relatively play free then the flanged bearings should make it even better.

I've been converted to using spherical joints wherever possible. They are in use on my Gibby's declination control pivot and are rock solid.

Could you show me some close up photos of just how these spherical are used in that situation Alex ..
It might trigger my brain to come up with a better solution.

Ah ..
Sadly not applicable in this situation ..
Nonetheless ..a good idea CJ

Damned awkward to get a camera into this area ..but done me best ..
Thus you can see why I approached it this way.
You can see the 2 bolts to be replaced by a single threaded rod ...
And a thought just ocurred as I typed this ..
a section of steel tube between the 2 hinge uprights through which the threaded bar passes ..thus bracing the distance between the hinges..
?

VS, putting spherical joints on there is simple. Unbolt the motor and bolt the spherical joints to the two aluminium lugs on the motor. Then you just need a couple of right angles attached to steel bracket for the threaded part of the spherical joint to be fixed to.

I would certainly look at your suggestion Huevos ..
Could you perhaps draw a rough sketch of your idea so I can better visualise it ..
?
A simple sketch on paper and photographed would suffice ..

In my minds eye I'm seeing what I -think- you are suggesting ...ie raising the dish up a little on the right angles ..and bolting to the outside of the pole top steel bracket ..rather than the inside ?

..also a link to a supplier of suitable spherical joints would be useful ..?

Going slightly OT here, you reminded me of something. Wasn't there someone on here a few months ago designing his own PM for a 1.8 that was going up on a wall IIRC, what ever happened to it, did it ever get finished? Can't seem to find the thread now.
