Hi everyone - I'm a newbie on here so bear with me please :)

We have just had a 1 metre dish installed in our home in Spain and are receiving Freesat channels off the new satellite so happy with that. I brought the Humax box from UK where we had been using it for a couple of years.

However we have been told by the installer to also tune in BBC HD Scotland and BBC HD Wales which are on the old satellite (I think!) so that my husband can be sure of watching rugby matches when available.

So I did a manual tune and got those 2 channels listed (along with a million others) but then lost the TV Guide that you get with Freesat. I want to have this guide as it makes recordings so much easier and asked the installer about this - he said there is a non Freesat channel list that I should be able to see separate from the Freesat channel list - I have read the manual from cover to cover and cannot see how to do this.

Any ideas please?

Sounds like you have switched into "Non Freesat" so you can watch BBC Scotland & BBC Wales.

You need to switch back to Freesat mode - you will then get your tv guide and normal epg channels back

You will find standard definition versions of BBC Scotland & BBC Wales up in the epg 9xx's

960 BBC1 Scotland
964 BBC1 Wales
970 BBC2 Scotland
971 BBC2 Wales

But I can't see how to switch between the two modes. What do I have to do?

As you know, there are two key modes: Freesat and non-Freesat.

In Freesat mode, you get a BBC1 Regional Channel on 101 that corresponds to the Postcode you entered on setup.

And it's only in Freesat mode that you get the full 7 day EPG (That's essentially what Freesat is - a comprehensive EPG)

In non-Freesat mode, which is there to gain access to Channels that don't appear to you in Freesat mode, whether from the UK 28E cluster of Satellites or from other Positions, you only get very restricted EPG data and no features like simple recording. The EPG data you do get is acquired in a different way entirely from what you get in Freesat mode and is usually Now and Next only for UK Channels. For "foreign" Satellites, it can vary from absolutely nothing to 7 days worth.

Margaret, can you tell us whereabouts in Spain you actually are?

It's just that your report of reception will be useful to add to other data we're compiling to get an idea of the true coverage from the new Satellite.

Thanks a lot guys!

Our log fire is already lit - been a bit cool here today and the central heating doesn't come on until 5pm and it's just nice to have the extra bit of warmth in the sitting room.

We are on the Costa Blanca in Javea/Xabia, mid-way between Alicante and Valencia. Signal strength is less than it was before the changeover but still good enough to watch. It's been a bit windy the last couple of days so there has been a bit of pixelation at times when the dish was buffeted but otherwwise we are pleased with the installation.

Just giving this a go by doing a manual tune (again) and then will see how it all looks with the switching.

Will let you know how I get on.

Just waiting for my OH to get our early evening scotch and ginger ready!
