The first problem was that it kept crashing then restarting.

The second problem was it wouldn't recognise any external harddrive over 100gb.

The computer had a Windows 7 Professional operating system with a very strange logo when I went into System Properties.

So, I had a hunch if I formatted the computer hard drive, and reinstalled MY copy of Windows 7, everything would be solved.

And it has. :D

No more crashing. :D

And the computer recognises all external hard drives - even 3TB, full to the brim. :D

So, what do you think was the problem?

Thanks in advance. :)

Corrupted OS, hence the fact is was on the market: My guess is that "refurbished" is a euphemism for "goosed".

Still, who cares, now you've revived it!

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

So, what do you think was the problem?

Cracked OS probably, hacked, slashed and beaten up to the point to make sure that M$ couldn't screw it over for not being genuine at the expense of being usable... :)

Or of course they've attempted to clean all information from the hard drive and took some system files out accidentally.

Thanks for your replies. Lovely of you all. :D

Actually I didn't tell you the full story. I missed a bit out. When I formatted the computer, and re-installed Windows 7, the USB external harddrive problem was solved, BUT the computer would still crash.

So, I went back to the drawing board, and formatted the harddrive again. However, not only did I format the PRIMARY and Secondary drives but there was also a third small drive I formatted that I missed before.

Formatting this drive seemed to do the trick, because I have had no problems with the computer for four days, when as before it was crashing every 10 minutes.

Thanks for listening. :)

Tivu, ha ha, I don't follow F1. You'll need to explain that to me. :p

Yes there is always one, a couple of decades ago it was Andrea de Cesaris commonly referred to as Andrea de Crasheris
