I wish you had better weather, for setting up, you could be under snow by the time you get it moved :)
What other satellites have you tried?

only 1 west and 7 west mick, i am getting a lot of fringe channels on 7w that i might be able to pull when i tweak and renew the cable and new lnb,

just a quick flick about and i have found 2 channels i will be keeping an eye on (first 2 pics), and a few pics what the box has locked onto,

i must say i am very pleased but my head is saying 1.8 atm lol, i will have to wait and see :-).

something i am stuck on help please, i want to keep my dish as low as i can, but without loseing any signal whats so ever,

to my right looking from behind the dishes final postition i have a 6ft fence, i am planning on putting the dish approx 12ft away from the fence with a more than likely upgrade to a 1.8, my Q is please, how high would a 1.8 dish have to be above the ground to clear a 6ft fence 12ft away to be on the safe side ?.

If you use the dishpointer application you will get all the answers you require.
Enter your postcode, zoom in on the map, to maximum, and position the green icon where you intend to set up your satellite dish. From the drop down box select a satellite, like Thor 0.8W, now check the box and move the red icon to where the obstacle, fence, will be, you will now get a distance reading, and more importantly a height reading.

thankyou aceb, i will not have a problem with east sats as the fence is quite low it will be west (not sure if anything is worth looking at beyond 30w?), having a better look at the situation if i was pointing at 82 west for instance the fence would be 4.5mtr away,

i just dont want to miss out on anything for the sake of a foot of pole, if you take a look at post 10 on this thread it will give you an idea the new dish will be resited 2ft to the right of my other temp dish.

edit

thankyou mick i was checking that as i was typing lol

There's plenty more sats to the east than there are west, the last really active sat to the west is at 45W although there are sats further out they are rarely active and you'll need a sat card to get them.
You can't see further than 75° east or west from your location, that is 0° elevation.
Get someone with an Android phone to install Dishpointer Pro, you can then walk round your garden looking for the prime location. Anything between 72E-67W is theoretically possible from yours with a large enough dish IF your horizons are low enough but practically speaking it's more likely you'll see stuff between 68.5E-45W.

thanks aceb, i should be fine then, ive got the post in and concreted, it will be part of a retaining wall made out of railway sleepers so it all blends in when my garden is finished, ive put it 3ft down and 3 bags of post mix so i dont think it will be going anywhere :-),

the angled wall bracket i have i am going to cut it down to act as a base mount so it will be another 2ft up, i will leave the post now to cure/set untill tomorrow then she can go in place :-).

You can turn that wall mount into a floor mount undo the bolts and turn the metal piece around.

Martin-f: So you going to nail your antenna to the barn door! :-biglaugh
I would not be so optimistic that with this hight (about 2 meters) antenna will stay stable enough. It will probably have play when you move antenna from side to side. And do not forget wind pressure will be applied to antenna. Only if this pole going to be attached to fence or another infrastructure could help. Making floor mount is good idea, just do not forget to do it adjustable, to make upper part plumb. If pole is not vertical in East-West direction you will not be able to compensate it, so it is very important for polar-mounts.

it will be just as stable as a wall, by the time the garden is level it will be only 3ft above the ground at one side, i should have no probs getting the pole level and will be using adjusters, thanks for your input :-).

edit,
i looked at the price of the adjustable legs and i am having a plate fabricated instead, i am picking it up tomorrow, no sign of the lnb today so i am hopeful for tomorrow,

ive now locked a few more sats 1.0w 7,0w 15.0w 24,5w, i think its starting to lose the ark as tps are coming in a little higher than stated, i will tweak this when shes moved,

this is what i will be doing with the garden but only 2 levels the upright i have fitted today were the dish is going will also be holding the soil back aswell.

That looks adequately sturdy, Martin. Nice job.

I remember when I bought my first ever house (1982), I installed a mast mount for Amateur Radio Antennae. When I moved, I left it behind, sticking out of the middle of the back garden to a height of about four feet.

To my certain knowledge, it's still "in situ" to this very day!

This is great construction, congratulations. I have seen some people putting metal ball between metal plate and upper part.

what distance? I'd use a 40mm version of this hxxp://www.leroymerlin.fr/v3/p/produits/electricite-domotique/gaines-et-cables-electriques/gaines-electriques-icta-l1308218979 .

I'd miscopied the link - sorry (now updated above)! It's an awful site, anyway :) Unfortunately I don't really know the term in English.. electrical conduit, something like that?
