Am slightly bored and want to know the answer to this question:

How long is the LNB arm on a 85cm dish roughly? Need to know to know how much 4 lnb cable to buy for going from lnb to diseqc switches.

It depends where you intend to put Diseqc switch. I think that 5 meters of cable would be enough to do cabling around antenna.

From LNB to back of dish. There would be 4 quad LNBs using all 4 outputs on each.

Than 4 x 5m = 20m
Plus, do not forget about 4 cables from dish to your 4 receivers.

True. So the length of the LNB arm on a 85cm dish is 5 metres long? The cable I intend to buy(maybes) has 4 cables inside a bigger cable.

Did I say so? :D 5 metres is for 4 runs of cable. LNB arm is less than a metre. You better buy more cable and have some left over after installation instead of going to shop to buy another 2,3 metres :p

I just buy cable (WF100) on 100m reels then I stock up again when they start getting low...

OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

4 Quad output LNB's on one dish, that's a lot of connections to do, a lot of coax hanging in the air and more things to go wrong.

Just use 4 cables to 4 single output LNB's and use a multi switch, you can get 4x4 multi switches, (or an 8x4 if you have the old legacy style LNB's) then you only have the 4 single coaxes coming in from the LNB's (or 8 depending on the LNB used) and 4 single coaxes running out to your receivers.

One switch, less coax, less connectors equals less things to go wrong.

To record one and watch another channel not necessary to install Quad LNBs, it could be easily done with Twin LNBs.

True but if they were quads I could record 4 channels plus.

But in the beginning you were talking about one channel watching and another one recording :D
By using quads, you certainly can do simultaneous recording of 4 different channel on 4 different receivers or one receiver with 4 tuners.

As you have "" No setup at present ""
You have to get a basic setup first to build on.
