Blimey, I'm still using Lisa

Time for an update I suppose, although I'm happy enough it for what I use it for.

All done.

Ten minutes to Install the O/S then half-an-hour to download all the Updates!

Does Linux work with the likes of CrazyScan software...I.e. is there an equivalent for DVB-S cards?

I had a look at this some time ago.

As Llew says it can be done but I reckoned it would end up being too time consuming and didn't offer anything different to justify the amount of my time that would be spent on it as I have windoze etc anyway.

Can anyone recommend a photo pixel reducing program similar to pixresizer that I have used successfully for many years, that works with Mint Olivia?

Yup.

XnConvert (It should be available through your Software Manager)

Dead easy to use: You can set up a permanent output folder, temporary or permanent scaling ratios, etc.

Instinctive, simple to use and effective.

Thanks for that Tivu, I have just discovered that Picassa will also do it via exporting

Yes, both Picasa and Gimp can do it, although are perhaps tedious as compared to using a small dedicated prog.

Yes I agree a batch would be tedious using Picassa

Have just installed Linux Mint 16 (Cinnamon 32 bit) on my spare laptop and I really like it. I'm using 'Mate' on here but could definitely be persuaded to change, though I might wait till 17 is available.

Mind you, using the spare laptop confuses the hell out of me as it's a French keyboard layout and this is UK. Why the French need to swap Q, A and one or two others, plus making the numbers available under the shift key is beyond me.

Nice one, Pete: Oddly enough, I've never used Mate and was vaguely wondering if I should use that when 17 comes out. But maybe I'll stick with what I know, especially in the light of your first impressions of Cinnamon.

Won't be long now - I think May was the target launch month.

Wonder how VS is getting along: Downloading it is the most tedious bit and I've since posted reference to the methods for the Checksum and Live Media creation (It's in the Manual, of course: But who reads those?!), so that should take only a couple of minutes.

Cinammon looks a little 'friendlier' I guess. The interface is more 'Windows' like and a shade easier than Mate to interact with. The beauty of the whole thing with any flavour of Linux is not having to go through a complete install until you've sampled it via a USB stick.

Sadly, VS seems to be up to his elbows in copper pipe and pumps rather than Mint......

And it doesn't take three or four centuries to install unlike windows.

What is VS  smoking in his copper pipe?!

I don't know if KWheezy Linux is any good but it is a great name.

Though perhaps Wheezy should refer to windoze. :(

Nah, Windows is more "leaky" than "wheezy", cos it lets more in than the user wants... :-rofl2

I'm going to try Kwheezy on the spare laptop (let's hope I won't need any Kwhells) and am downloading it now......but 3.7Gb?.....even at my improved download of 1.5mb I'll have to continue it tomorrow......and see if I have a dvd to burn it onto....

Crikey, that's a big iso! Even Ubuntu and Mint are only 1.2GB.

Ah, I see it has lots of preconfigured bells and whistles, which no doubt accounts for its bigness.

Convenient for those not so familiar with linux. That said the learning curve is worthwhile. Not always fun, but worthwhile.
