For those who have UK WHICH membership, this page is one of the latest info pages on phones
Mobile phone security: check how long a phone will stay secure - Which?

Embedded in that is a long rolling list of the end of support life for a very large number of phones - and, as the Thread Title says, it varies a LOT, mainly by manufacturer, and so that's something to keep in mind when you buy your next one !

PS: and just to add a specific to that, we both have Motorola mobiles - her's is already out of Motorola support life and mine only has 2 months or so to go. To cap that, mine wouldn't even start up yesterday and needs repair:oops: - luckily, it came with a 2 yr Amazon warrantee (3 months to go on that) and it was picked up this morning and might be back/replaced by the end of next week:rolleyes:

Yes I would agree about Motorola, shambolic support service, I bought my G7 Power in April 2019 and security updates ceased in February 2021, I will not be going with them again.

Must admit that, whilst we've had several generations of Motorolas and been reasonably happy with them on a "cost/benefit" basis, I'll be loath to get more when these "die" for one reason or another.

I was originally happy with it, but when I first bought it, the phone had a functioning proximity payment system, but at the first Mototola update that capability disappeared, the forums were flooded with complaints, all of which were ignored by Motorola.

Don't think I ever tried to do that sort of thing on a phone (basic rule here = all online financial transations to be done on PC's where we can better see "what's going on"!), except possibly trying to pay at one of those bloody car parks where that's almost "compulsorily" the one way (and failed!).

So, have you any "suggestions" for what to buy next ?
(NB: and don't suggest an iPhone in any form - a "bad experience" with a desktop Mac decades ago totally turned me off buying anything from Apple!)

I've a OnePlus 9, which given recent announcements should be supported by them with software updates for at least another two years (They're now announcing 4-5 years of support from release for the latest devices they've released). Also have a spare OnePlus 7T which has now reached software support end-of-life - I plan to get that flashed with Lineage OS, but flashing and maintaining such thrid-party firmware is certainly not for everyone.

Even if you regurlary update your phone this still won't protect you from attacks and hackers. I recently had my phone hacked into by people at work, the only mistakes I made was leaving my phone unattended (but locked) and charging the phone via a usb cable plugged into a PC.

No suggestions really, as iPhones are also somewhat compromised now, it is something I am currently researching. I actually do not use on-line banking at all, only telephone banking, which is proving difficult now. I have a NW account with a small amount of money and was going to use that but never actually used the proximity system as it was my intention to use it for travel in London as both children lived at that time in and around London, but before I got a chance to set it up and test it and go down there for any period of time, they got rid of it, also WIFI calling disappeared, the bank account has since been changed by the bank to remove the card function so I need to get rid of that account. BTW my wife has an Oppo and has had no trouble at all since buying it.
