Aurora last night at about 3am in Helsinki. Difficult to photograph with all the light pollution.

Bit of a challenge with live macro subjects especially insects, observation is the key. note regular feeding places ( flowers, surface pollen corns etc ) then setup your camera and equipment ( tripod shutter release cable etc ) then if you get lucky take as many piccies as possible before the subject is gone.
This serie of the fly is just a sample I actually took 25 photo`s in rapid succession.

My camera ( canon powershot G12 ) has a flip out fully rotating display screen so no matter the camera position or height have full visual control without having to get into embarrassing positions yourself.

Regards

Found these two large caterpillars (7cm-ish long, size of a finger) today while taking a walk on top of a former rubbish tip in Helsinki. Any idea what they are? They could move pretty fast too.

Also the mushrooms are coming out in the forests.

Those mother-in-law mushrooms are really good! o_O

- Why did your mother-in-law died?
- She ate lots of poisoned mushrooms.
- But why she has broken limbs and a blue eye?
- She did not want to eat them.

The first caterpillar is the Bedstraw Hawk Moth, can't tell from the photo of the second, not enough to see, but great photos. :)
