I was reading that the Nilesat 101 satellite has been de-orbited:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nilesat_101

It has been replaced by Nilesat 102 in the same geostationary orbital position of 7° West, so does that mean people who had their satellite dish pointed to Nilesat 101 can receive Nilesat 102 TV channels without physically moving their satellite dish on their roof? Is the Latitude the same or different?

Yup gone to the sat graveyard

Currently at 56E and drifting east.

All the Nilesats are co-located so if you can pick one up you can pick all of them up - as long as you are within the coverage area.

So can you tell me which satellite is now in the same position as Nilesat 101 was?

Strange they sent it off so quickly. I don't think it was even inclined - was it?

So are 102 and 201 sharing the same frequency or do they each have their own frequency? And which one has the same frequency as the discontinued Nilesat 101 had?

I made the attached transponder table a while ago.
Nilesat 101 and 102 should be correct.
For Nilesat 201 there is some uncertainty, IIRC I based it from signal reports during startup.
Corrections are welcome!

ryan14 you can see some frequencies are available both on 102 and 201, of course only one of them will actually be active.

Just like every other shared slot the frequencies will be divvied up between the satellites.

But would 102 and 201 have to use the same frequencies as Nilesat 101 did?, otherwise people would have to manually re-tune their satellite receiver wouldn't they?
