I can't stop LG from preventing me to go to my Sky Q.
It says sometimes no signal, or puts up a lot of LG stuff that I am not interested in.
How can I go straight to Sky Q without LG stopping me?

What is the model number of your television?

In the settings there should be an option called something like 'power on preference' or 'default input' which will need to be changed to HDMI 1.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!

Recent/current LG webOS menus seem to be quite complex, and so settings like those are well hidden!

On my approx 3yr old LG 42UM7500PLA set (running webOS s/w version 05.30.30), one seems to have to go the following route to select a specific default input:
Settings -> Connection -> Device Connector -> then you get a list of 10 possible device icons to be connected!
I appear to have previously selected "SET-TOP BOX/OTT", but there are another 9 possibilities (Blu-ray/DVD Player, Home Theatre, Bluetooth/Sound Bar, Speaker/Headphones, Game Console, Smartphone, PC, External Storage, Other Box)!
Now, I probably should have previously selected "Home Theatre" because my (Denon) AV rx HDMI output is what is connected to the TV HDMI 2, but it probably didn't matter at the time because nothing was, or is now, connected to the TV's other HDMI inputs - and so the TV's "brain" selects the only one that is connected, which is the one from the Denon.

All the other video sources are connected to the Denon's HDMI/other inputs, and so that's where actual source selection is made for all practical purposes! (I bought the Denon mainly because it has 7 HDMI inputs, and most of them are used!).

PS: Now I know why I sometimes long for the much simpler menus on older TV's!

Yes some modern television menus are horrific, strictly dumb TVs and monitors only here

It seems there are various methods for LG televisions depending on age and OS, also some require hotel mode enabling which is why I asked for the OP's new TV's model number so I can check the manual.

I rather guessed that might be the case at chez vous:D- so that's I tried to give an example of what might be required in order to change the default input on a reasonably modern LG TV.

LG43NANO766OA
On my old Toshiba I never needed to go there.
On my Sky remote I just went straight to Sky Q
Now I need to use the remote for LG and that's when the problems start
First I am asked do I want to access Sky Q ? and then it says no signal

Are you using the top right button on the remote to select HDMI? I wonder if it is trying to connect to the Q's wifi signal rather than selecting HDMI.

Is the Sky Q box definitely turned on, are you seeing Sky Q menus? Are the satellite cables connected to the Q box?

As for setting the TV to default to HDMI I will let @jeallen01 assist as the online manual I found is useless.

Yes I select HDMI
It always says No Signal
I can't explain this, but eventually after several tries it lets me in.
Why no signal, and how do I get a signal?
The system was set up by Curries.

Is the No Signal message from the Sky Q or the television?

We have an LG Nano. When turned on it it connects to the input it was on when it was turned off. We don't turn off the satellite box or the AV amp.

I wonder if this might be the solution for Gus

Hold down the settings button for about 10 seconds
Type 1105 on the control
Click OK Enable "Public Display Setting"
Enable "Power On Defaul"
Choose HDMI Input 1 (or whichever the Sky Q is connected to)
Exit Menus

Also, and FWIW, have you reset the "control the TV" aspect of the SKY remote by entering the correct code for your new LG TV - IIRC, there will be several such codes for each TV brand (there certainly are for LG ones!) and so you may have to try them all to see which works the best.

I seem to have managed to override LG when I log in.
It is not perfect, but I am satisfied
Thanks for your replies guys.
