Hi everyone,
I need to receive a Standard Definition signal out of the HDMI port. Because of the all set up I don't have other option. Do you know what receiver would allow me to do this ? I tested an Icecrypt S3200CCIHD but the SD is only fed on the Scart/CVBS ports.

Thanks for your help!

You really need to give a bit more explanation on this. Are you saying that the device (usually a TV) that you are feeding to will only accept an SD signal over HDMI? I find that rather unlikely as TVs will accept, say, a 1080i signal but, if it only has a 720 line panel, will down convert to 720.

If there is something wrong with the receiving device which stops it behaving as it should then look for a setting in the sending device which says 576i. This the European SD standard. Another possibility is 480i, the North American SD standard. The 'i' stands for interlaced line scanning and there is a slightly better version which uses progressive line scanning, 576p. This is not basic SD though and would be better to ignore.

Thank you both for the prompt reply.
The situation I have is the following:

SAT HDMI out -> HDMI to SDI converter ->SDI Standard Def Video matrix

I can't change or add any converters into this line, and the HDMI to SDI doesn't down-convert.
That's why I am looking for a receiver that can give me SD directly out of the HDMI Port.

Hope this is clear enough,
thanks

I think your stuck. All receivers should output the same signals off the HDMI.

You need to look at changing the signal path & feeding off a scart socket or similar (unless you can find some weird pro grade gear that can do what you want - Ive never heard of any though..)

Aaaah thats an alternative way of looking at things. I was assuming it was a basic problem with the hdmi signal itself.

Ive not got anything wired up through hdmi so I cant check that - Im still operating on scart & rf :D

Yup, I can set my Foxsat HDR to 576i output.

Other options are 576p, 720p, 1080i and original. I keep mine set on original as I prefer the way my TV treats 576i to the way the HDR up converts and leaves the HD pictures alone.

ok, that could be good news. I can set the Icecrypt on 480i. 480p, 576i. 576p, 720i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p, but the problem is that the 480s and 576s are not fed out of the HDMI but only on Scart/CVBS. But I need it to come out of the HDMI.

Are you monitoring the Foxsat on the HDMI port?

Then that is a problem. My HDR is only connected by HDMI so I know that it outputs through that. What does your Icecrypt do to the SD signals when fed out through the HDMI?

If all else fails then I have seen converters for sale that will take a signal from a scart source (not sure whether it has to be RGB, S-video or composite video) and turn it into an HDMI signal. From memory they go for about £40 - £50 but I might be wrong.

Well, the OP asked what receivers could output SD.
I think the answer is "among others, the Humax Foxsat HDR".

Mine is the earlier version. Does your 1010 still offer the same?

Only offering an alternative to buying another receiver as a converter might be cheaper than a new satellite receiver.. Unless the Icecrypt tested was only borrowed of course.

Good point. At home I have the earlier version too. The 1010 is at work currently, so that would have to wait for monday.
But you can still get the earlier version (i.e. the "Humax Foxsat HDR") on some on-line shops.

I can also confirm....My Humax Foxsat HDR outputs SD 576i via HDMI cable.....my wonderful "Strong STR 7805" receiver ...also outputs SD 576i via HDMI cable....that might be a cheaper option than a Humax...(50 euro from amazon de).......
