The SNP don't expect to win the vote for independence.

They are hoping for about a third or more of the votes. They won't be complaining if they won, but from the outset they have never expected to win. It is a strategic step towards devo-max.

OK - I follow your reasoning but the SNP were offered devo-max as a third option for the referendum and rejected it. Maybe it's a triple-bluff! :)

Now you're thinking like a politician!

You're both right!

The campaign of tv and radio programmes in Scotland and N England has been going on for well over a year already.

What they are doing is slowly breaking down peoples irrational fears of the country falling apart on independence and working through all the possibilities of what can change. They know people will be slow to change their ideas but after a few years of thinking about it they will realize they can make their own decisions for themselves and not be expensive failures.

It is working as more and more people can see independence would work perfectly well and they would be like Denmark or Austria though they don't actually want to split. So then they will be much more receptive to devo-max than they were 2 to 3 years before because they will have thought through the issues and can see it can work but they would not have thought it would work if they did not have so long to think about it.

I can certainly agree with that.....

Indeed. The BBC is a paragon of virtue, Political neutrality and Professionalism by comparison to offerings from many other sources. US productions I find even worse than the ubiquitous Euro-replicas of what once were decent UK initiated Entertainment Shows.

And a vast number of Expats and of indigenous Residents of non-UK Countries seem to be only too keen to find ways to get or to maintain access to the BBC.

There is no way it could end up like Greece.

Scotland has the most ripped notes fixed with sellotape in the world. If you have been to Scotland you may have seen shop assistants at the tills having to prise the money out shoppers hands.

They are too tight to be like Greece. The only way they would end up in debt is if they couldn't force themselves to hand the money over to pay it off.

:-rofl2

At long last!

Relief from having the issue on every programme for the last couple of years. You couldn't escape it. Normal programming has resumed.

It seems I was right about the devo max. ;)

Now I bet Cameron, The Clegg and The Millipede will congratulate themselves and give themselves a big pay rise.

To be honest the only thing that has bothered me about the whole thing is that my pound is now worth less Canadian Dollars than it was last month. I really coudn't give a toss if Scotland went it alone or not. I couldn't give a toss what happens to the UK full stop

On a lighter note, when i lived in Aberdeen i had the displeasure of meeting the infamous Mr Salmond. I can honestly say that i have never met such a horrible and obnoxious person in my whole life. All was going well until he realised i was English. It went pretty much downhill from there :-lmao

I have little interest in what happens now to this car crash of a country.

I do hope that was an attempt at sarcasm o_O
Virtue, professionalism and political neutrality? :-lol I've never heard anything so far from the truth uttered about them in my life. They are the most biased news reporters in the world, they run a complaints section that is designed to restrict your ability to complain and they have a very long history of covering up their cover ups. They have policed themselves for far too many years and it is time they had a seachange of management, personnel and reporters.

Hmm. It has its faults, but the emphasis was on "by comparison".

And, of course, perception of bias depends upon the prejudices of the observer. If they manage to offend everybody, then perhaps they are doing a good job.

Auntie is held in high regard across the World, not just by me.

Mind you, as I believe I suggested in another, more recent, Topic, ditching Nick Robinson would be a boon.

Michael Vaughan too.

Nothing wrong with what the BBC do. I don't find them anymore biased than any other broadcaster. Sky News and ITN aren't exactly unbiased either compared to the BBC.

On a lighter note i see that Salmond has thrown his rattle out of the pram and has quit, Sounds like a sore loser to me :D

If you want to complain about television wait until you see American or Canadian TV. That is well and truly shocking. Crap picture, crap content.
NTSC = Now thats sh!t colour :-lmao

The problem with the BBC is that they tend to drone on and on and on and on and on :-sleep

BBC World News on 19e, 13e etc (its the domestic version on 28.2e) used to be much better than the UK version but recently it has started the droning. I have been watching EuroNews and France 24 more often, they give the news every half hour without droning around in circles.

Also the BBC tends to have spineless reporters who would run away from a butterfly, even ITN (ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5) are not that bad.
