I am going through a dry spell with work at the moment, so I am looking for something to do over the next few months.
So I started to think of teaching English to adults on a personal basis (not in a classroom), with a focus on speaking properly, as in my opinion English is not spoken well here.
Haven't done any teaching before, but I am hoping to be able to do a good job.
Any good tips from teachers, for example good teaching books to use, would be greatly appreciated. :)

There are some very good books available on the net specifically designed for teaching English as a foreign language, my sister did the TEFL course a few years back.

Thanks mostajohn for the link.
The BBC has a lot of resources for teaching English.

My intention is to try to teach better spoken English and not teaching from scratch as I am assuming that an adult who has finished school has a good knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, spelling, etc.

But this is going to be quite a task as most people who "speak" English here think that they speak English well and don't realize how terrible they sound to a trained pair of ears.
