Hi all

I have an official viasat package. However I was checking tonight and the PL extra channels seem to have disappeared. I have checked with my source in Denmark and apparently they should be still there and should start on channel 116 on the official receiver. They are also listed on lyngsat. Does anyone have any ideas of what I should do to recover them on the official receiver.

Thanks

Trev

They are carried on the SES-5 Nordic beam, so you may well need a bigger dish.

I would have thought that a 1.25m would have been big enough, even in northern Ireland. Can you check signal strength on your Technomate & Spider boxes - I know you can't clear the channels with these boxes but it should tell you if signal strength is ok.

If that shows a good enough signal strength then you will have to get more information about how to receive them on your official box.

Last thought - are you sure these channels are still active? - the old days of getting all the 3pm matches on the PL channels are long gone.

Forget them in NI, they are on 11345V, which are on SES-5 satellite, not Astra 4A. I can't get anything on SES-5 even on a 1.5m dish in Bristol, so you have no chance in NI on a 1.2m.

hi all,

I have viasat set up on my 1.85m prime focus. I have been pulling the TP's reasonably well with some drop off at night around September/October time.

Does anyone know what TP's these SD versions of these channels are being shown now? I have seen 11.345V noted on lyngsat but i think this is for the HD version. I cannot see a listing for the Sd version now. I can only assumed something has happened the official pace receiver during an update and these channels have been missed. I have a technomate 5400 connected in line with the official receiver so i can check signal levels.

The PL xtra channels cannot show 3pm matches on a saturday. However they can show sunday and mid week matches.

They have been messing about with the channel number on the box so could this just be caused by an error during the update? Is there anyway to force a new update? I am hampered by the fact that the menus are in danish!!

Thanks,

Trev

Looks like all the SD versions of the channels have been dropped - they were on 11747v

If it's a Pace HD box, then you can change this to English.

Pretty sure all SD Xtra channels have moved to 11345V - in their SD format. I don't think there are any HD versions of them, other than TV2's PL HD channels, which are also on SES-5 but there are only 3 of them.

Hi all,

My Danish contact says he can get me upgraded to an HD box. My question is do HD channels require a higher signal levels to clear than SD channels. As i said before my signal is a bit marginal. I can get all the SD channels but at certain times of the year the signal level tails off at night. Generally all the SD TP's are pulling a quality level of 70% plus (as measured on my technomate). However i found with the official PACE receiver the picture started to pixilate when the quality level dropped to 60% where as the technomate would work down to 50%. If i did get a new receiver is it possible to get the tuner in the box upgraded to a more sensitive one? I remember reading that ex-pats in Spain look for particular makes of SKY boxes that were better at dealing with marginal signals (I think it was the Amstrad boxes that were best in this instance).

I think you should forget HD channels on SES-5 (look here - frequencies 11265V/H, 11305V, 11345V/H and 11385V) - you simply won't get them in Northern Ireland on a 1.2m dish. You can try tuning your Technomate onto these frequencies and see if you get any signal lock on these. If not, then no receiver will help there - you will need a much bigger dish.

The only HD channels you can get are those on Astra 4A satellite at the same location, frequency 12437V and NRK1 on 12015V. They don't carry PL channels though.

If you have a contact in Denmark, you're probably better off trying a Canal Digital subscription - 6'eren HD carries some PL matches amongst other channels on there. 1W cluster of satellites is also much easier to receive than 5E.

Quite an easy catch for me on the 1.2 C/J, I could get some on the 1mtr dish from memory, please take no notice of my satellite position.

Thanks for that,

I have a spiderbox HD so i could hook that up to see if I get a signal. Am i correct in assuming that my technomate 5400 will not pick up a TP reading with it only being an SD box. I am running this off my 1.85m prime focus but i think i would have to do some fine tuning to it as i don't think i ever got the LNB properly centred on the dish when i rebuilt it.

Hi Trev,

All you can do is try, I am in a good position and do well here, most people struggle with this in the uk as C/J has said, good luck and keep us informed please.

You need a box thats capable of receiving DVB-S2 transmissions. Standard SD boxes wont see any signal.
