Hi all,
As you will have guessed, i'm a newbie on here.

Many years ago I bought a Drake 250 Earth Station & kit for my home - which was supposed to have been the dogs danglies at the time.
It didn't get used more than a couple of months as I bought a Hotel & went to 'live in'.
I was deciding whether to sell the Drake and was looking to see if any analogue satellites were still operating.

I then thought,,,, why sell it if there are ? I may as well use it myself.

I havn't used satellite reception since that time, as after paying an enormous amount on the kit, I didn't want to pay Sky on top. As such I no longer remember the satellites from that time (Eutelsat ?!) nor terms used for satellite useage.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading
TOM

Mainly Astra 1 @ 19.2E.

But not for much longer. And it's largely German, not English.

See _http://www.analoguesat.co.uk/ for details

(They might even be up to date .......................... :-hide )

Two analogue positions left, 5W & 19E

5w shuts down on November 30th 2011
19E goes on April 30th next year.

Almost no English channels left now - Eurosport on 19E is about the last one.

And Tivu you cheeky monkey yes my analogue website is up to date, :-rofl2 (althought the digital one isnt)

Tom you will need to invest in a digital receiver & tune your dish to the 28E slot - loads of free English channels on there. :)

Thanks folks.

1/ Are there many foreign speaking satellites still using analogue then ? My DRAKE may well be worth selling to someone who can take advantage of other languages,,,, wherever they might live.

2/ Before looking at the supplied link, what free satellites are available nowadays ? I’m only using Freeview at the moment.

Obviously this will need looking into again from the beginning, as I can’t remember anything that I was looking at, or using.

Cheers all

As per Analoguesat's post, two satellites left transmitting analogue, Astra 19.2 with German language channels and 5W with a few French language channels, if you go to the site, there is a list of the remaining analogue channels on the two satellites.

Thanks guys - cheered me up no end ?!

For my own part, i'll start looking & learning about digital stuff.
I'll need to start from scratch, with terminology, brands, current satellites & programs etc etc.

Where does a newbie start ?

thanks again

Tom
