Sorry if this has been asked before or if this is the wrong forum.

Which is better? The VU duo2/Ultimo or the Gigablue Quad plus?

Better for what? ie What features, characteristics and facilities are important to you?

Comparisons are, in the main, subjective.

Which is better?
Yes, if you can specify your criterias for tuner comparison, such as: price, color, remote control ergonomy, weight, quantity of internal tuners, software support etc.
Do not mention quality of picture, cuz it is purely subjective criteria.
Take any of your mentioned and you will be happy.

Well I can buy a Gigablue quad plus box with two dvb-s2 cards for £320 or a Vu+ Ultimo with a twin tuner card fitted for about £400 or a Vu+ Duo2 for £400+.

If price is main criteria, than GB quad is best choice

There are actually no best receivers.... After you buy receiver it automatically turns to to be your best! Other-ways you would be stupid you bought it. So, buy any receiver ant that will be the best one. :-rofl2

I suspect one of our Admins might not entirely agree with that sentiment as all his new acquisitions seem to be afflicted with various maladies!

My Vote Gigablue Quad Plus probably because i have one as it is the only one out of the 3 which has far more configurable tuner options

I have heard that Gigablue Quad got a sensitive tuner on par with Vu Solo2 better than everything else with E2
have you noticed that compared to other linux based receivers you got

I tested this out for you the other day on 7.0° west here in the UK and have to admit that the Gigablue Quad Plus Tuner performed marginally better than my F15

Setup was Twin Black Ultra from Gibby one feed into Gigablue and other feed into F15 both identical cable and length, The Quad Plus managed to pick up or i should say show a picture with breakup where as the F15 would show nothing which surprised me.

The tuner i used on the Gigablue was from the Plug & Play slot No3 on the back i did not try one of the already fixed DVB-S2 tuners for the test

Hope that helps

The problem with the F15 is with weak signals, it doesn't show a pixelating picture - it shows only full frames. Or nothing at all. This is unlike most other receivers, which will show a moving pixelating picture in the same situation

Totally agree but there is a difference between no picture even No full frame to a moving pixelated one

Yes, I much prefer a pixelated moving image to nothing at all.

The F15 is good at telling me if there's any signal at all as it will show SNR dB below lock, unlike others...

I guess that Gigablue fixed tuners got to be better than plugable
