As for idling a car, people aren't doing that to warm the engine, they're doing it to warm the car so they don't have to stand there scraping ice off their windows, too much hard work apparently...:-doh

Years ago I demonstrated to an old git who would waste time idling to heat the inside of the car that if you drive off gently then after 15 seconds hot air would come out of the blower. That is just a blower not a proper a/c or climate control. If he let it idle it didn't get warm very quickly it had to be driven. Will they realize that or will more cars end up stolen ? Well if they can't spend a few seconds scraping I think we all know what will happen. . .

I bet the media morons didn't spend a minute washing the sea salt off their cars after covering the storm yesterday. Now that really is moronic.

2014_12-11_13-47-00_ITV1 Border News A68 carter bar layby Kim.jpg

Kim was out covering the cretins stuck in the snow overnight on the A68 Carter Bar north of Kielder Forest (stuck due to the wrong tyres - the snow wasn't deep).

2014_12-11_18-29-09_BBC 1 NE & Cumbria Look North A68 hannah.jpg

But Hannah  was cunning. Staying down from the blockage there was less chance of getting stuck. Which spoils the fun a bit :(

I wonder if the media morons idle their cars to warm them up. One of them has a Qashqai, at least that is made locally. Most of the cars I have seen them drive on screen are Fords. One had several 'diesel' stickers on the dash so some must be fleet vehicles run by someone who was taking no chances with the morons. They must have put petrol in it several times already.

Talking to my Mum last night she mentioned that the bleak conditions at Carter Bar had been on her local news. I did point out that it wasn't too unusual, as it can still be covered by snow in June.....

Got a soft-spot for Ms. (or Mrs?) Bayman eh? :-rofl2

We got some snow here yesterday, nothing to write home about, just about half an inch, most of it melted away, some stuck and has frozen overnight into an icy crust, I liked how they said on Look North that Consett had "heavy snow" and then showed pictures of pretty much what we got, a light dusting, two years ago was heavy snow when it snowed about a foot in one night, but yesterday, nah, light dusting, they're getting annoying with Londonising the weather descriptions....

I liked how they said on Look North that Consett had "heavy snow"

At the height of Consett's steel industry they got rust coloured snow...

Yeah, I've heard that one round here a few times when it's been snowing heavily, could have made it easier to clear the snow, just use a magnet... :-rofl2

Nonsense!

It's a magnificent 7C and I've already been out to town for my Bell Ringing and have just washed SWMBO's car. Now digging out the vac. to deal with the carp in the footwells.

+9C outside but cloudy. Need to wash my dish as stooly birds sit in the tree above it and crap all over it.

It's warm today I thought when nipped out into town, had a tshirt on under my jacket, needed to buy a secret Santa present for work colleague I picked in draw.

Friday night/ early hours yesterday though was cold when I went out very early to get some shopping at 7am.

Not really a fan of it but had a couple of baileys warmed up nicely for walk home from local Friday night.

Suerely they would be ex-stooly birds once they have done their business.

This weather is just weird. Normally in December Im wandering between the two building on our site huddled up in a thick jumper, a waterproof coat and sometimes a woolly hat. Today I was in a short sleeved shirt - and quite comfortable...

Finish for our 2 week winter holiday tomorrow afternoon. An hours wander around the site after lunch to make sure all the projectors & computers are off then knock off mid afternoon :)

Same here. Just back from badminton and the car was reading +12℃ and it actually felt warm in just shorts and a sports jumper. Not feeling Christmassy at all. Stocked up on plenty of booze though to say goodbye to this generally crappy year...

Last week, the Turf Accountants were promoting a nailed-on White Christmas.

Today, the Met.Office are predicting the warmest Christmas ever.

Go figure.

I was seeing a threat of snow for the 27th round these parts on Weather Underground, but it seems they've revised it to "chance of rain", but could change again, that's the fun part of weather, just so long as the snow holds off until after I get a shelf delivery on the 29th... :D

Just the usual rain here, it seems to have been raining for the past 3 days, warm but wet, same as last year. I predict the cold weather January - March.

It's been dismal here for the last two or three days - windy, with rain, drizzle or mist most of the time. But so mild I've refrained from lighting the log burner for the last two nights.....Of course with it being Winter and coming up to Christmas my village (well probably the newly elected maire) has decided to block off and dig up it's through road to install main drains....

Woke up to rain again ...for the 6th consecutive day ..
Not particularly cold atm ..but fed up of being pissed on now..
It started before the meteor shower peak ..and never really stopped..
Save for 10 minutes this morning ..which gave me a brief opportunity to nip out and apply some lithium grease to Carls moving parts and the motors gearbox.
Just got done when the heavens openened again...yet another shower.
Welcome to sunny Manchester.
cest la vie
