Researchers in France announced this week that they have managed tooptically transfer data at a record speed of 16.4Tbps (terabits persecond). That's the equivalent of 2.05TB - about 100 HD movies- being copied every single second.It's thought that the research could eventually lead to the creation of 100Gbps Ethernet connections.

I'm surprised they found sufficient data to carry out the test, perhaps they carried out the test using HD DVDs which are now being sold for next to nothing as blueray is the new de facto standard
